Hello, I have had results for my recent well woman blood tests and been told my cholesterol is 5.8, my blood sugar is 44 & I need to lose 20 kg. Wondered if anyone could recommend a good diet to follow that would help me lower all these results?

Hello Moontiger47 and welcome back I see you were her a year ago
There's a GP, Dr David Unwin, whose patients have had great success in reducing their blood sugar, sustainably. Here's the plan he suggests dietdoctor.com/wp-content/u...
Managing your blood sugar comes down to managing your carbohydrate intake. This is a useful introduction. Half way down the page you'll see the relative carbohydrates in different food items. This site also has loads of recipes dietdoctor.com/low-carb
I'm going to tag some members who have successfully reduced their blood sugar to see what they suggest. They may not be around today but I'm sure they'll drop in when they can. Hidden , Fran182716 , Gizmocat

Small steps . So portion sizes , 3 decent meals and limit anything in between . I had the wake up call when I was diagnosed with hiatus hernia . I had to loose about the same amount of weight as you but I am about 3kg away from the target but feel at 60 years old I don't want to look scrawny or have a drawn in face so I am happy maintaining a 17-18kg loss . I got used to keeping to around 1400 cals on a balanced lifestyle eating plan . I do now have take outs maybe only once every 6 weeks , wine, crisp etc but I exercise about 5 times a week for an hour each time - mainly Zumba and try to walk most days . I don't minus off these calories but it keeps you toned . Try MFP free app to check macros .It also has a barcode scanner which will tell you how much salt / sugar is in everything . Don't take this as a punishment . This has helped my joints especially knees . I plan to go back swimming when safe . I feel better mentally too . Not done overnight but as each kg came off it made me feel so positive.
Hi moontiger47, my pre diabetes sugar level was higher than yours in 2019 and I needed to loose about 3 stones. I am no longer pre-diabetic and lost the weight in less than a year, by replacing my white carbs with healthier option like sweet potatoes instead of normal potatoes, wholegrain rice instead of white rice etc. I also upped my veg and fruit and cut out sugar. I am vegetarian and wheat and dairy free and never had high cholesterol so cannot help with that aspect. Good luck on your journey 🙂
Hi, I personally like low carb, the food is lush and you don't feel hungry would you like to join our weigh in? Here's the link, I hope to see you there! x
