Celeriac Calories

I guess this is a question for my fellow UK based calorie counters! (I say UK because I have noticed that the USA calories figures online seem to be very different to UK)

I recently started eating celeriac and I am really enjoying it, but I am struggling to find any consistency in the calorie values for it!

I have noticed that UK calories for celeriac per 100g seems to vary when searching online anywhere from 25 to 45 - thats quite a big difference when trying to be accurate!

I weigh my celeriac before cooking and before adding any spray oil or spices etc so I am looking for a basic figure for calories per 100g with nothing added and before cooking.

What calorie values do you use when cooking celeriac? - I have been using 25 per 100g but it worries me when I see some people counting it as 45 per 100g!!!

thanks in advance guys xxx

Most supermarket websites will have nutritional info for the items they sell, so why not go with whatever the chain that siphons money from your pocket each week says? Most seem to have it around the 25kcal from what I can see.

Hi, thanks for your reply! - yes, thats what i have been doing, using the 25 cals value as shown by the supermarket I shop at, but I just wanted to check to see if anyone was doing it differently, just because I have seen so many people logging it at 42 cals per 100g - have a great evening!

I don't count calories but when I did I used to Google "calories in ...." and accept what it gave me. Yes, you're right to go by precooked weight for fresh foods.I see what you mean though. I get those sort of different results. Very odd.

Thanks so much for your reply! - I think I am just a bit untrusting when it comes to calorie values, especially when I see so much variation - I usually go by whatever it says on the packaging, but with celeriac it just seems that so many people are logging the calories higher than I do, I thought there was something I was missing!!! lol - have a great evening!

What's your calorie range? Do you check it with the NHS BMI calculator? To be fair, 20 cals one way or another isn't going to make much difference but I can understand you wanting to get it right

I use the My Fitness Pal to calculate my calorie allowance, and its worked well for me over the years, I lost 11 stone that way - I know that I am more concerned about getting the calories accurate than most people! lol

It’s a natural product so will, like any natural and not manufactured product, differ- different varieties, different growing conditions will all impact on the actual calories. The difference between the two isn’t huge but assuming the higher level will ensure you don’t go over but it is minimal - just enjoy 😄
