Hi, recently diagnosed as pre diabetic, reading the book and recipe book before I start this diet on 1st February. Has anyone out there done it? I'd appreciate any feedback, tips. Cuts out many of the foods I enjoy!!

Welcome to this amazing forum. I suggest you spend some time clicking about to find your way around. It's easier if you have a lap-top as there are several threads. If you’re using another device I strongly suggest that you use the web page as opposed to the app at least until you know your way around.

Have a good read of the pinned post “Welcome Newbies” and follow every thread.

Here’s the link to the pinned posts, healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Here’s the link for the “Tour” of the forum. If you haven’t already taken it.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. Personally I haven't got this problem but many of our members have had it. They have also managed to reverse the diagnosis with a sustainable life style.

Here's a link which may help you with your decision.

I strongly suggest you read and contribute to the Daily Diary and participate in a Weekly Weigh in.

You will find there's loads of tips about better eating, from other members. Sharing your daily menu not only helps you stay committed, it can help other members too.

Good luck I hope to "see " you around.

Hello Lurcherlover and welcome :)

There are members who have used this plan and there are others who have reversed their pre-diabetes results with a low carb healthy fat plan, which fits with Michael Mosley's thinking. Tagging Hidden , though she may not be around at present. If you're taking medication, you would need to discuss this with your medical team.

Here's some further reading on tackling diabetes/Type 2 diabetes.

And this video is Dr David Unwin, whose diet sheet is the first link I've given you. It's very helpful on where the sugar comes from in your diet.

Good luck with all your reading and preparation. Have confidence that you can do this :) Follow the link that Tabby has given you and get involved with forum activities to get the most out of your time here :)

Hi Lurcherlover and welcome this forum has changed my life. I came across this site by accident and I'm so glad I did. For me I was on 3 injections a day for my diabetes I was eating foods out of my diabetic book.Like I said I came on here put in my meals on the daily dairy just to see if I was eating the right food. This lady said to me on there can I give you some suggestions on your meal I was happy to have someone that could maybe gide me a little.

I've been fat all my life and just getting fatter.

Anyway she said if I was you I would swap your bacon brown bread sandwich for your breakfast and have fried bacon and eggs in butter maybe add some spinich to it. I'm thinking to myself do they know what there talking about. And for your lunch change it to this. For dinner swap the sweet potato for different types of vegetables. Also someone on the group said watch Dr David Unwin WOW I've never in my life ever heard someone talk and I actually understood.

I started my journey 18th May last year I've already lost 6 stone 10 lbs I'm no longer having any injections. The eating plan I'm on is LCHF low carb high fat. I will never go back to my old way of eating. I have learnt when I'm hungry and when to eat or not eat. I hope this will help you. Good luck on your journey xx

Hi - this was also a suggestion for me, I read Brian Mosley & I’ve been trying to more or less follow LCHF & have substituted many items as suggested- it does work, I’ve lost almost 3 stone over 3 years (put a bit back on over Xmas/Lockdown) - and I’ve managed to get out of pre-diabetic - also using IF at times. But, I’ve now been speaking to people on a “Why Weight” programme, they do not really agree with this approach and insist on 3 meals a day - such conflicting advice!!

Good Luck - it’s certainly worth trying the LCHF - like you I’m going to get back on track - started this week, but definitely stricter with myself as from 1st Feb, now all the Christmas goodies have gone 😁

Hi, I reversed prediabetes in 2019. I lost two stone over 9 months, the first stone on LCHF then the second on a more liberal reduced carb plan which is still my eating pattern now (if we can ignore the 9lb I’ve gained stress eating through the pandemic - working on that now) Dr Unwin is a good read, and Dr Aseem Malhotra. If the foods you enjoy are sugary high carb foods it might seem daunting but most peoples experience is that after a while on a lower carb low sugar plan you just don’t enjoy these foods anymore, they taste sickly sweet and make you feel sluggish and bloated so your cravings go. Good luck 🍀

This seems a reasonable eating plan not just for those tackling diabetes but to be mindful of all the hidden sugar we put into our bodies . As veggie and vegan foods have become to go to targets in a lot of supermarkets - Lidl launched an extended range in Jan plus their new app has tempting coupons to lure you in to at least trying but many are so highly processed with quite high salt / sugar contents in many supermarkets sounless you read the labels which a busy family shopper may not have the time or me dashing in and out so anxious about Covid then these foods could just be deemed as being healthy when many aren't . This really annoys me as there was no coupons for fruit and veg which is the basis of any healthy eating plan .

I’m with you on the shopping issue, I used to browse in supermarkets for new things to try, and checking the sugar content, but now you want to get in and out as fast as possible. I’ve started checking things online for their nutrient profile, and if they look good then they go on my list for the following week 😀

Hi focused1, thanks for your reply to my post. I agree about dashing in and out due to covid. Being careful about food labels as many look healthy but aren't at all, loaded with hidden sugar!! Best wishes, LL

Hi there, I was pre diabetic too but haven't followed a LCHF approach. I managed mine by changing my carbs for healthier options and knocking down sugar. I lost my weight due to going to slimming world. Good luck 👍
