I would suggest dropping the idea of puddings being an important accompaniment to every meal. Of course it's a special occasion with guests, so for that I'd suggest a fruit pavlova (with real cream, not the fake stuff) or a chocolate torte. The latter isn't exactly "healthy", but bizarrely enough it has a fairly low glycemic index:

As for avoiding temptation: your diet seems to be severely lacking in fat, and you're eating way too little for an adult. This may ultimately cause you to experience "binges" as your body desperately seeks out a macronutrient that it needs (and the micronutrients that tend to come along with it). Just eat natural foods that haven't been messed with by food scientists. Avoid stodge and sugar, opting for veg/meat/eggs/dairy instead. And eat until you're full. You'll then find that sweets don't have much appeal.

oo, you naughty boy!

I've got to make that now, I know loads of people who would like it.

Cheers!

LOL. It's definitely not an everyday dessert, but if you do feel the need for one, it's not too sinful.

TBH I'd go with the Greek Yoghurt suggestion myself (we used to go to a Greek restaurant where they did the most awesome homemade version) but I've noticed not everyone likes the sour note of proper yoghurt.

Greek yogurt is certainly better than standard natural yogurt. Thank you.

Did you mean to post this on the Daily Diary Eliza52 ? Here’s the link healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

I have discovered that the desire for a “dessert” is habit. I really don’t want to “spend” calories on it. I just eat more for my main and have a coffee after. After a while you will adjust, I promise. Sugar is so addictive ☹️

It wasn’t a criticism Eliza, but I hope you found your way to the Daily Diary? It’s a great place for sharing meal plans and getting hints and tips for tasty, healthy meals 😊

Hi Eliza52, generally I'd say look at the day as a whole but having dinner guests does make it a different sort of day. I'd go for mixed berries and cream and/or a selection of cheeses.

I agree with TheAwfulToad that your meals for the day look very minimal: you can probably keep that up for a few days but sooner or later you'll probably be chewing the table leg!

Have a look at the Daily Diary to see what others are planning and then join in with your own meal plans: it's a friendly place where you can pick up tips.

Enjoy your evening :)

My tip for not sampling sweeties is to chew peppermint gum. Ruins your taste buds for something sweet!

Thank you, I will try that. I have taken to wearing a face mask now, which puts a barrier between me and the sweets too!

My go-to 'pudding' these days is a Greek Yoghurt, Kvarg or Skyr with a blob of thick double cream, a splash of runny double cream and a few raspberries.

That seems to work. 😄

Make a sundae with low cal jelly layered with Lindahl white choc kvarg and berries/compote/tinned fruit Could put some toasted oats in or on it too

Thank you, but do you know of a low cal jelly that doesn't taste of soap?

The Asda powder sachets seem ok. But, the hartleys 10 cal pots are lush. They are made up though x

It helps if I look at the ‘naughties’ and say ‘oh they’re horrible’ out loud! Being mindful of what’s really in them too helps.

I don't normally eat puddings and it helps with the calories. We had some people to lunch a week ago and we all had a dessert made with a spoon of honey with yoghurt over it and topped with a spoon of granola. Simple, tasty and good enough for guests.

Hi Eliza, when I fancy a treat after dinner, I would have raspberry sorbet (del monte do a lovely version in the form of a lolly, it's 85kcal and doesn't require scooping, which helps with portion control), or a couple of homemade chocolate oat balls (which are basically just oats, cocoa, dates and peanut butter blitzed together and rolled into a ball shape), very occasionally low-cal chocolate mousse (that you can get in a supermarket, about 80 to 100kcal usually depending on the brand) with lots of raspberries mixed in and more often than not, if I really fancy chocolate, I would eat a small kinder bar (portion controlled, with added bonus of making me feel like a child again :))

It used to be that I couldn't eat a meal without something sweet at the end, which isn't good for weight management, so I started having fruit as a substitute (nectarines, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries etc). It took me about 3 or 4 weeks to wean off the habit by doing this and now I eat something sweet if I have calories left in my budget and fancy it, rather than as a compulsion!

Hope this helps :)

Hi Eliza and as a Greek yogurt addict (I’ve recently started making my own which is easy, cheap - and incredibly delicious) - how about this as a version of what others have already suggested:

Use glass bowls - or sundae dishes if you have them!

First layer: raspberries

2nd layer: Greek yogurt

3rd layer: a few blueberries

4th: more Greek yogurt

Top: some toasted nuts & seeds (sunflower, pumpkin seeds; crushed pecans & macadamia nuts) and a few sliced strawberries.

If you find the yogurt too sharp, you could always drizzle a weeny bit of honey or maple syrup on top! Or, as someone, has already suggested, you could add some dark chocolate. Get your sharpest veg peeler and make 'shavings' of chocolate to decorate the topping.

Sounds perfect. I went with fruit salad in the end as short of time (mostly frozen berries) with single cream. I will definitely give this a try though.
