I thought I would introduce myself to you. I am a 43 year old male, who was until diagnosed with cardiac issues and cancer a fir and healthy former police officer.
I have slowly put on weight, only around the wait really, but after my first heart op in 2018 I was able to begin exercise again, but then the issues returned and I have not been able to exercise now which has been hugely frustrating.
I have been off work for the last three months and am now at my heaviest. I was also diagnosed with mild sleep apnoea, so I am keen to lose this weight.
My weakness is sweets and snacking. I eat healthily normally, plenty of veg etc, but it's this boredom snacking which has got worse. I often find myself dipping in the fridge for Kinder bars/Marmite mini cheeses etc.
I am not a fan of breakfast, so am thinking that I may look at a shake based diet such as Slim Fast for breakfast and lunch and then have a dinner as normal.
I just wondered what your thoughts were, and if you had any suggestions?

Welcome, I could drink the Slimfast shakes for fun, they're delicious, but boy, it's a hungry way of doing it! I much prefer lchf the food is lush and you're NOT hungry, check out the Diet Doctor website for great visuals, recipes and there's even a two week free trial!

I have to agree with Lytham, food replacement shakes are chemical compounds that will leave you hungry and won't teach you anything about good nutrition, or eating well. What you need is something sustainable that will keep your cravings under control.
If you don't buy sweets and other snacks, then you won't be able to eat them. The more you eat, the more you'll want.
Are you not allowed to exercise at all? What about short regular walks? You don't need to be pounding it out at the gym.

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.
If you are not a fan of breakfast, then simply don't eat it. "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is a 19th century advertising slogan coined by John Harvey Kellogg. An extended fast from dinner to lunch has many health benefits, and does not mean you will overeat later in the day.
Why are there Kinder bars in your fridge? If you are putting them there, simply stop buying them. If another family member is buying them, they should stop if they love you. No one needs to eat them, and if they want to eat them, they can eat them out of the house.
I think LCHF would be a good diet for you, and then you can keep the mini cheeses!
A good point about breakfast. The word of course means 'breaking your fast' so basically the first meal of the day. It doesn't matter whether it's at 7a.m. or 11/12/1pm - (when it might be called 'brunch' or just lunch) - you just have a longer overnight fast, with the benefits that can give.
You have been given some good advice. Real food is the way to go. Diet Dr is a great site. Look up Dr Aseem Malhotra on You Tube too. He was a heart surgeon until recently, I heard an interview where he said he has stopped doing surgery in order to get the health message out to the wider world.
just googled the Slimfast ingredients 😮. Give me real good any time.
Subtle-Badger is right, if you aren’t hungry at breakfast, don’t eat it. We have been brainwashed into thinking we should eat by the clock. Masses of exercise isn’t necessary either. If you can go for a walk or do some gardening that is enough. Maybe look on You Tube, again 😊, for heart healthy exercises or gentle exercises, it’s amazing what kinds of exercise are on there.
