Here are the numbers : Age: 61. Height : 5 ft 5 inches. Weight : 158 pounds. Health condition: Type 2 Diabetic, on Long and intermediary insulin. No other health issues.

What is the best exercise to lose 15 pounds in 4 months? I do not snack, and walk up to 2 miles every day. My weight remains steady at 158 lbs. Most of my weight is around the abdomen. My waist used to 32, but now it is around 36 inches.

At one point my weight stood at 140 pounds and m y aim is bring the weight back to this level (I am currently at 158 lbs) Frankly I am finding it difficult to shed the 18 extra pounds.

I am a vegetarian, do not eat eggs or meat. My carb consumption is very much under control.

I heard that jump rope is a good way to lose weight - What is your opinion?

Other than that, I have a treadmill that I can use - but isn't that the same as walking fast or running? Is there anything else I can do to shed the extra weight?

Hello and welcome to the forum Massdow,

Firstly I would point out that we are not medically trained here.

Although exercise is good for you, it is what you eat that will help you to lose weight. I'm afraid I don't know of any exercise alone that will achieve your goals.

My advice would be to follow the Low Carb High Fat way of eating, but I am being cautious telling you that as I see that you take insulin. If you are already eating a low carb diet you should take this into account -

If insulin and other medications are not adjusted for a low-carb diet, there is a high risk for dangerously low blood glucose levels, also known as hypoglycemia. Therefore, it's important that people who take insulin or diabetes medication speak with their doctor before starting a low-carb diet.3 Jun 2017

You will find more information about Diabetes Type 2 and LCHF on the Diet Doctor web site - but as I have said, please speak to your Doctor first, before embarking on it.

If you haven't already, please take the time to read the Welcome Newbie post, this will help you to navigate the forum, which is best done using the full website and not the app.

Please also take a look at all of the Challenges, Clubs and Events that we have, to help to keep you motivated and engaged with the forum.

In addition to the excellent reply from Lucigret, I would also look at what you’re currently eating, and see if you can make any small changes that would add up to a big difference. Your BMI is 26, only just in the overweight category, so it may be that a few simple tweaks will make enough of a difference

I agree about carbohydrates being a problem as we age, and they are notorious for adding abdominal fat, but as an insulin dependent diabetic caution is necessary. Your GP or Diabetic Nurse should be able to advise you more

Good luck 😊

You are at a classic point in your life that many of us can empathise with.

Through my fifties I put on weight, I'm a fraction shorter than you but also went up to almost 12st. I loved carbs , I loved wine and I loved eating out, but I didn't love going up a size in clothes.

But in 2014 , age 62, the reality hit me that I could indeed change this if I really tried , and the help of sites like this one and myfitnesspal helped me to slowly and safely lose over 2st. ..... and most importantly , keep it off.

Rest assured that if I can do it then anyone can, and the support of all the fab people on here will guide you through. Good luck😊
