Need help?

I'm new to this community. I decided to join because I'm currently in the process of losing weight and getting fit.

I know it's so tough, and it's difficult to find reliable and healthy information online and get the support you need.

I'm 50lb down as part of a 75lb weight loss journey. No fad diets, no subscription diets or fasting. Just a balanced diet and exercise.

If you need some motivation or help from am average person then let me know. I'm not a nutritionist, I'm not a PT, I'm just a normal person trying to get healthy!

Much support to everyone out there x

What caused the gain and what have you done exactly to lose it?

I always struggled with my weight, learnt some unhealthy eating habits from my parents when I was young.

Tried various things that didn't work and I couldn't sustain so kept putting the weight back on and more.

I went through a period of doing PT which I enjoyed but the level of control over my food got too intense. I felt like I was being shamed for any little treat, and I didn't enjoy food as much.

After I stopped PT I felt so free to eat what I wanted again, and just didn't have any self awareness of what or how much I was eating.

Gradually over a period of about 2 or 2.5 years I put on more weight than I realised.

So I started by weighing food, counting calories and having portion awareness. Did a lot of uphill walking to get me active, good exercise without the impact of jogging.

As the weight came off I refined my diet further, making sure I ate enough and also not too much, while getting the nutrients and energy I needed. Food prep in advance helped massively with this.

I also changed my workouts and made them a bit more challenging and varied as I got fitter. I was also sure to eat little and often to keep my metabolism high and prevent feeling hungry.

The key for me is to set small achievable goals bit by bit and continually review and assess what I'm doing and how it could be better, making little changes often, rather than lots of big changes all at once. I make sure I treat myself now and again, especially when I've reached a little milestone. Everyone needs treats sometimes!
