Hi Bluebelle,

My knees are rubbish too!

I started to try to lose weight last summer, before I got told I had to. I walk at work, but that is mostly pushing a trolley, the running etc. I used to do has gone now.

You say you're being strict with what you eat, are you starving yourself.

I have gone the route of LCHF, which is low carb with HEALTHY fat. The press is full of doom and gloom about that, but I have dropped 3 1/2 stone and feel much better for it.

Lots of healthy fresh food, some olive oil, butter and cheese, fish etc.

Just no cr@p carbs such as bread, cake pasta etc. It sounds ghastly and people say 'I can't give up my carbs', but you're replacing them with other things that make you feel fuller for longer.

The admin bods will be able to point you in the right directions with links etc - there is some very interesting reading out there.

Hang around here - we all know how you feel -we've all been there.

Good luck!

Hello and welcome Bluebelle

I'm sorry that you knee is giving you so much grief that you need an operation. You will be happy to know that exercise, whilst important, does not have to hamper weight loss.

I sort of smiled when you said you're being 'strict'. So many of us here have thought we were being 'strict' when we started out, only to discover that we have been eating, sometimes the worst food and most the time, far too little. It is really hard to comment on somebody's eating plan with out seeing it, so I am going to invite you to join in with the Daily Diary, I am even going to make it incredibly easy for you to do, by giving you the direct link,

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

I also want you to read this,

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

and then I am going to suggest you look at what you are eating and how much. Ditch any low fat/ diet foods, they contain too much sugar. The only person that benefits from them is the manufacturer. If you want to follow a calorie controlled diet, make sure you use the NHS BMI calculator to find your own personal calorie range and start just below the top end.

If you haven't already, please take the time to read the Welcome Newbie post, this will help you to navigate the forum, which is best done using the full website and not the app.

Please also take a look at all of the Challenges, Clubs and Events that we have, to help to keep you motivated and engaged with the forum.

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

The above link will take you to all the information you need. Participation is key to success and I would recommend that you at least join the Daily Diary and a Weigh In day of your choice.

There is a lot of reading to do, so make yourself a cuppa and take the time to read, please don't let it put you off, it is well worth it :)

I'm looking forward to seeing you on the Daily Diary and if you don't get there before 9pm today, there will be another one for tomorrow posted on the forum around about 4pm today, you will find the link in Pinned Post, the link to that is just above here :)

Wishing you the best of luck in your weight loss journey and looking forward to seeing you around the forum :)

Hi Bluebell and welcome :)

I have the same concerns as Sewnknit. When you say strict, you don't put it into context but if you've been eating too little this could be problematical.

If you have a look and join in today's Daily Diary, you can get specific feedback on what you're eating (constructive feedback) that you'll probably find helpful :)

Hi bluebelle I can only imagine how tough it must be. I found swimming helped me when I had a dodgy knee. I also suffered from the " denial & selective amnesia" regarding what I ate. I found I was too lazy bto document what I was eating truthfully..so I took a picture of it & looked back later to remind me of what I reallyate
