Fat and fed up

Hello one and all.

I am nearly 56, female and have MS. Fat (83.5kg) I can't exercise that much due to left side not working so walking and balance are pretty awful. I wondered if anyone could help me with a healthy diet/menu plan.

That would help me lose some weight and improve my self esteem. And maybe with less weight I might be able to move about easier. Thank you. J

Hello Sunflower, what a pretty name :)

Welcome to our friendly forum. Weight loss is mostly down to what we eat and not how much exercise we do. We have plenty of people on here that are unable to exercise for one reason or another.

The first thing we would suggest you do is to work out your personal calorie allowance on the BMI calculator and make sure you eat toward the upper end. If you are eating low fat diet food, we would suggest that you stop. It's usually full of sugar and not at all satiating, eat healthy fats and watch your carb intake.

I am going to give you a couple of links to have a look at, you might find them interesting.

Oh sunflower I know just where you are coming from, I joined in January and I'm severely disabled and 56 too, before joining here I'd tried and failed many diets, I've learned such a lot from everyone on here about loosing weight and keeping going at it.

Everyone on here are following different things, low carb, nhs 12 week plan, weight watchers slimming world etc etc, I've tried them all, the one that works for me is low carb, ive lost 1 and half stones so far and feel better for it.

Because I can't exercise I don't need carbs for energy so that's how it's worked, you may want to try the 12 week plan of something else, but whatever you choose you will find everything you need to know on here.

There are always plenty of us willing to help you, you get lots of inspiration and tips, the more you come on here the more you will be likely to stick to it.

Just set small goals like half a stone at a time rather than seeing it as a overwhelming amount, and try to see it as a change to a new healthy way of eating for life rather than a diet.

Hope you find all you need on this forum and I wish you well on your weight loss journey.

Welcome sunflower😊

I have MS too. Diagnosed 22years ago. I suggest you find an activity you enjoy. I love swimming and it keeps my strength in my weak left side. I've bought an electric bike that helps with my balance.

More importantly I love both swimming and cycling.

Rest assured though your weightloss is mostly about what you eat. Some people here follow weight watchers and others slimming world. Some follow the Blood Sugar diet and others have had great success with the NHS 12 week plan. Find what suits you best. Remember, no deprivation, just healthy food that nourishes your body.

Best wishes

Valerie
