Hi everyone I'm new here been calorie counting for a week now!!

I wonder how you manage if you go out for a meal and are unable to weigh and measure what you eat? Do you just estimate??

I'm used to slimming world!!

Thanks

Hi Gillibeans,

You do need to estimate but you should make healthy choices and should also have a good idea of portion sizes by now so keep to those to a normal size.

On the other hand, if you only go out for a meal ocassionally, don't worry too much and enjoy yourself, if you do feel you have over eaten then you have the rest of the week to make up for it :-) John

Guilt is a terrible thing isn't it? It can make you throw all your hard work away!!

Hi Gillibeans. Eating out is always a bit tricky. If I went out for a meal I always used to order something that I knew I could roughly estimate the portion size. So I had chicken kebabs and rice with vegetables one time and roast dinner another. You do get used to the portion size you can have so can estimate while you are out. I hated leaving food but the rice was too bigger a portion and too many roast potatoes. I never estimate at home though as it is so easy to go over! Either that or be brave and take your scales with you!!!! Hope you have a lovely meal out anyway :)

Haha thanks I can just imagine bringing my scales out of my bag!! Yes I always weigh and measure at home and I don't want to not go out!! It's an Italian I'm going to and I have the set menu so I will try to work out the calories!

I guess stay away from creamy sauces and all the lovely bread - ooh its going to be hard though. Best of luck :)

I used to estimate but now most places have the calorie count on the menu (or will tell you if you ask). If not, I just try not to eat to excess and move on :)

Have fish if they offer it - usually a healthy choice, and then ask if anyone wants to share a pudding - after all, an Italian dessert is worth going out for, but it doesn't have to be huge!

Thanks there is a salmon and prawn risotto on the menu but can't remember if it's a tomato sauce or creamy sauce, there's also sea bass? Might try that!
