Hi JennyT22!

I have tried all sorts of diets over the years and generally failed miserably!

This time around however the whole experience had been better - in many respects due to this forum!

I downloaded the nhs 12 week plan to start me off. Then, following advice from others on this site, I downloaded myfitnespal and fitbit apps (both are free) which helped me to control what I was eating.....4 weeks in and I'm half a stone lighter!!!!!

I would say that mine is a lifestyle change, not a diet, as I believe that when I manage to get to my target weight, I will still need to watch what I eat to stop the weight creeping back on. This is forever!

My advice to you would be to make small changes over time. Too much too soon will make it harder for you to stick to. Also drink water! Lots of it! We often mistake thirst for hunger!

Good luck!

You can do it. I made the lifestyle change decision and 15 months on I am still sticking to it. It has to be a permanent change or otherwise eventually will slip back to old ways or yo yo diet.

Hi Bigleg, interesting post. I understand what you are getting at but certainly some seem to manage fine counting calories.

I myself am more with you. I never followed any plan from the off 15 months ago. I found myself eating less and less carbs and found myself not fearing fat too much. This happened as I changed the way I eat to cut out all processed sugar and virtually all processed foods. I now eat clean, fresh food and tend to fry everything in either coconut oil or occasionally butter.

I do have some carbs but this is limited to breakfast when I have porridge.

At first I was only having porridge around 3 times a week but now have it almost every day and it certainly hasn't affected my weight loss. When you say low carb, how low do you go.

I would be interested to hear what are the basic principle of the low carb, high fat diet. I think I am getting towards it but would say mine is moderately low carb and moderately high fat diet.

What ever it is I feel I eat well and I'm losing weight.

I would love to hear more from you on this subject.
