Hey ladies. Any of you here 9n this forum suffer from fibroid. I am very active in my weight loss programme. I tried to go to the gym 4 times a week and take part in various classes that the gym offer every day..

But the thing is I suffer fromb fibroid been to the doctors countless time. But the only advice they can offer is it will go away on it's on. The question I want to ask to the women in similar position as I am. Does it really goes away. How long do we have to suffer before something is done about it. I found that the gp doesn't take into consideration the amount of pain we have to go through.

I have stopped being intimate with my partner for the last two years. Because of the pained it just caused. While I am loosing weight and my body is toning up. My stomach keep on getting bigger. It looks like I am 3 months pregnant.

Any advice will be fully welcomes. Thank you. Xx

Hi Edithharrison, the short answer hun? See a different GP and ask for referral to a Gynaecologist at your local hospital. Not all fibroids disappear on their own, some need surgery, some need hormone treatement, each case is individual. As its affected your personal life with your partner for so long, its not acceptable for the GP to fob you off.

Hope this empowers you to take action. As patient's we can ask for a referral. If you are refused, make an appointment with the Practice Manager, and very politely make your point as you are not satisfied with the reaction so far.

Go get 'em x

Thank you fussy bird, reading your comments had urged me to go and make an apt with my GPs, I had never thought of asking for a referral with the gynae I just accepted what the doctor said, and went away quietly. Big thanks to you, now I know what need to be done.

hey, no problem hun, hopefully you are the road to recovery now, this is the first step. I have had friends with fibroids, luckily not myself. But they both had different treatment, after referral. GPs are limited in what they can do, but they have let you down by not sending you to a specialist within the last two years.

Let me know how you get on, if you want to, and well done losing weight with all this going on, stressful! x

Hi edith sorry to hear you have fobroids. I had fibroids last year. Intially i was on medication for 6months to try and shrink them but it didnt work 😨 after having ultrasound and mri i was informed that they had infact gone bigger and my womb was that of a 34 wk pregnancy!! On the 20 june last year i had a hysterectomy 😢amd the fibroids weighed 11lb !!! Thankfully i never experienced negativity from my gp and things happened really quickly. Although the op and the reciver wasnt very pleasant. Im glad to say im very well now. Hope you get yours sorted soon 😁

Ps edith i asked my gp what would happen if i opted against surgery and she said i coukd live with them as they would evently shrink but only once id gone through menopause! And as i havnt started menopause it was too long to wait and to live with. Deffo ask to speak to another gp and get referred sweet 😀

Thanks Sherlock, I was wondering if there is other alternative instead of surgery. I have read somewhere where they can actually freeze the fibroid to stopped it from growing.

But I don't think they are offering it on the Nhs.
