I'm 17 years old and I'm over weight, all my family tell me I am and I really need to lose weight. Exercise isn't a problem for me as I actually enjoy being active, I just want some support losing weight as I don't feel comfortable telling my family. Also if anyone has tips on not craving bad foods.

Hi,you say all your family say you are overweight but how do you feel. You don't say how much you need to lose but I would say to keep a food diary for a week and see where you could improve you eating habits and what times is when you go for the unhealthy stuff, just remember there is no such thing as good and bad food just moderation,I started yoyo dieting from a young age and am at my biggest now because of that way of thinking. Its a hard habit to break. You can do it if YOU really want to.Take Care

nhs.uk/livewell/loseweight/... There is a lot of help & advice on this site. Best to start by keeping a food diary. If you crave bad food (whatever they are) try self control by just having a little occasionally. My downfall is crisps, so I never have them in the house but do have the occasional bag when I am out.

Good luck and as mandy says, you need to do this for you not your family.

Hey, In terms of craving bad foods, do some research into finding out whats in them. If you have netflix theres some great documentaries on how to be healthier if you have netflix and honestly I used to love eating crap but after watching them Im not such a fan. The best thing I would recommend is making a rule to yourself of not having high saturated fat/sugar foods in the house so you wont want to eat them and If youre out and about and decide you want a sweet treat, at least make sure you buy an individually wrapped product and not a multipack, because the usual mentality is that once youve bought a whole back of biscuits, you might as well eat the whole pack which will not help. Try to restricthigh saturated fat and sugar foods to social occasions only. If your firends wanna go to the cinema and get ice cream, join in - but just dont eat ice cream when you get home!
