Hi, I have the same problem too now. I have thyroid probs, undermedicated I believe and always under review. Now at 125mcg. (feel free to read my profile). So I recently started with back probs again and usually happens when I put on more weight (on going for 3 years now), and I am now proving that I don't feel I can do much more to lose weight and shift the lethargy and exhaustion I'm feeling. Doc's put me on HRT to cure the latter... but no change in 4 weeks although I don't have the typical symptoms and am still having monthlys.

I joined a gym and work out 3 - 4 hours a week (life changing in itself) including bootcamp, very strenuous exercise and trying to jog for the first time ever. The trainer is excellent and checking my food diary a couple of times a week, tells me off if I have sweet stuff as I'm trying to pack it in.

Well in 4 weeks I haven't lost anything.. well 2 lbs. :( I have fluid retention on my left leg for a few months now and that doesn't help. :( (normally I would easily loose 7lbs through a hour walk nightly and healthier diet.

Tonight I sit back tracking, calorie counting using the NHS site to check the calories and I see that I am normally achieving 1500 or under daily!!

So what's occurring???

I'm going to get back to the Doc's as HRT also adds weight and I could REALLY do without all this, AND if you are on HRT your Thyroxine should be increased anyway as it inhibits its functioning.

So... In a nutshell I can't help you, but I'm curious to learn more. If I get anywhere 'll let you know too ;)

Gosh, PoppyRose, we sound exactly alike! The only difference is I'm post-menopausal and only use topical low-dose HRT once a week. As for what I've eaten this week, Concerned, my breakfast never varies. Oat groats + small sliced banana and 80g fresh fruit in season. Lunch is either half tin baked beans on 1 slice dry toast, or half a tin oily fish or v. thinly sliced cheese or a boiled egg on 1 slice dry bread + large tomato, 2" cucumber +lots of lettuce. Family dinners-Spag bol, veg pizza, veg casserole, chicken & vegetables, quorn curry = all home-made, all fruit & veg homegrown wherever possible. I'm going to try cutting down on supper portions, but I'm already hungry 90% of the time. My gran, mum and sister have been obese most of their lives. My dad's built like a whippet, but eats like a horse. I've inherited my relatives female size and male appetite :( First world problems, eh? :D

Oops - I should have added that I drink only tap water and (lots of) tea with skimmed milk. I never drink spirits, but share a bottle of wine with my husband most, but not every, weekend. I never snack, only eat cake (home-made) about once a month, It's been nearly eighteen months since I last ate chocolate, which is a real sacrifice for me!

I'd like to thank you both for commenting - writing everything down like this has made me realise I'm in danger of getting obsessed. Maybe I should just accept I'm meant to be this size?

What food diary do you use? MyFitnessPal is free and is excellent. You can use it as a web page, but if you have a smart phone it's a great app that you can carry with you all the time. It works out how many calories you need to stay within to lose weight and keeps a tally for you each day.

Sounds good, but as I'm the only person in the world who hates mobiles, I manage with a notebook! ;)

Good grief, it's no wonder I've hit a plateau. I assumed by cooking from fresh and sticking to organic and/or unprocessed it was job done :(. Thanks so much for this list. You've definitely hit several nerves. Portion size is definitely one. I'll start weighing it. The gallons of tea I drink probably add a hefty burden via milk, so I'm trading some for more water. Nuts - I grab 4 or 5 walnut halves to eat while power-walking, once a day. Wholemeal things seem to fill me up better than white. I was brought up by an overweight working mother who never cooked, & snacked on cakes, pastry & chocolate, so It's a case of poacher's daughter turned gamekeeper :D Thanks for all your help!
