You may be better posting in the Couch to 5k forum, what exercise do you do at the moment? If the answer is none you may be a little over ambitious!

I can only repeat what Prin said...

I do the Couch to 5k plan, I'm just on week 3 and can now just about run for 3 minutes...

It's a bit much in such a short time, but also suggest you post on c25k forum.

Walk!

If you never RUN I would advise against running - but if you can run a very little then I would suggest you do whatever you can day 1, double it day 2 if you feel okay to do that, walk the same distance day 3, double day 2's run on day 4, etc, in other words build up gradually every day over the 2 weeks, never pushing yourself beyong what you can recover from after a night's sleep. If you do that you should find your own limit which hopefully will be the 3 miles, if it isn't then don't do it! x

Great good on you. Running is great, but its hard work and you can't cheat. It does give a lot of high impact on your joints so expect some pain. I have been through shin spints (Need to run through them although they are excrutiating), ligament damage (Take time off to recover), cartilage damage (Still not resolved but am getting around it now). I'm not sure what your BMI is but if its high (Sorry if thats presumptive) i agree with secondhandrose if you can choose cycling or oter lower impact sport. If you do want to stick to running here is my advice :- Start slow and built up. Listen to your body, if something hurts its for a reason and your body telling you something - dont just take iboprufen and carry on etc.. If and when you get an injury take plenty of time out to repair. Lose weight the less you carry the less impact and the easier it is. Keep going running istruly great you will feel better for it and want to do more!!

Thanks for all your advise... I have a toddler so haven't had a chance to read them till now... All gratefully received. I walk all the time, use to be, 5 miles a day but now I have an older dog and toddler no where near that much! But I am fit and feel walk and running this will be good and fine... Do have arthritis in my knees, but will walk through that! Thanks a gain x
