I've heard it from so many sources that I believe it must be true: the diabetic diet is a good, basic for almost anyone to follow. I'm a bit over 2.5 years post transplant and have lost approximately 65 pounds since my surgery. Half was intentional by following the diabetic diet; the remainder came off largely due to being sick from one of the meds used to treat my diabetes. Not the way I would have chosen to lose weight, but I'll take the end result. I've kept it off for over a year at this point, which is the ultimate win. Check with your endocrinologist or other care provider about speaking to a dietitian, but you could probably Google it and get started while waiting for an appointment. Best wishes!

I am seriously considering getting an endocrinologist, as I do not have one at this time. I am 14 months post transplant. It was suggested to me that I have an endocrinologist, but I’m not exactly sure why. I have had some sugar cravings from the prednisone, or possibly the tacrolimus, depending upon who I talk to, but will they be able to help me with that? The dietitian at the transplant hospital isn’t very helpful. Let me know if you have a link to the diabetic diet, I am not diabetic, but any advice you have about eating will be helpful (I HATE COOKING!). I was losing weight for 6 months after the transplant, but now I have put on more than 40 pounds (because of sugar!) and I am miserable. Your advice will be appreciated.

speak to your dietitian and also request help with exercise thry may have something going as s part of a renal study. I do know there is a national research going on regarding exercise and renal patients. Just try low impact and short spells of activity combined with a healthy eating.
