Hi, I've had mucus in my inner ear for around 7 years which causes tinnitus,I can keep cracking it by yawning but makes the tinnitus even louder, been to doctors had MRI scan but can't do anything and don't seem that interested,I was wondering if I burst my ear drum it would let the fluid out or would this make it worse? Thanks in advance

please - DONT interfere with your ear drum!

I’ve never heard of “mucus behind the eardrum” or at least never heard of a syndrome or infection or whatever described as such. So I really don’t know how that might be tackled, if at all.

As far as your tinnitus goes, are you at all familiar with Tinnitus UK, the charity? You might find some insight to your condition or what you can do about helping your tinnitus there.

Hi.

How do you know it's mucus?

Have you had your adenoids removed?

Any sudden hearing loss or ear surgery?

Have you had a pressure test with an audiologist?

Could be excessive fluid in middle ear not draining correctly through the eustachian tubes?

There are some simple techniques to remedy this . However see an ent consultant and have it investigated for eustachian tube dysfunction.

Also take a couple of decongestants like sudafed, or inhale steam once a day.

It may help.

I can only say it worked for me to some extent.

It might not work for you.

Worth trying.

I get where you're coming from with the apathy from ENT as regards tinnitus.

You have to be persistent with them.

It's your life.

hi it's some kind of fluid in the eustachian tube I can move fluid by clicking my jaw but makes the noises louder,tried steam, Sudafed and blowing balloon up with my nose nothing has worked in all these years,thanks for replying.

A working colleague used to get excessive mucus. Phlegm is my life, he said. He eliminated cheese from his diet and it was no longer a problem. He had been told all dairy, but on looking into it found that that would be a near impossible task as milk in some form is everywhere and as an ordinary fellow couldn't be bothered and I agreed with him. How the lactose intolerant manage it is quite beyond me...

A family member tried 'Plantago' from A. Vogel, and it helped to clear excessive mucus. It's not expensive and could be worth a try (They are oral drops, to be swallowed - not to put in the ears!)

How do you know you have mucus in your inner ear? It is such an unlikely scenario. Tube can be played in the Eustace tube. Tinnitus is caused when the thread like nerve that connect the nerves of the ear to the brain is damaged. It also breaks down with age, damage, or trauma.

it's some sort of fluid as my ear feels full all the time with crackling noises, difficult to hear people on my right side,also high pitch noises

Whatever you do, do NOT burst the eardrum. A study was done on deaf people with terrible tinnitus. The doctors burst the eardrum in an attempt to cure these deaf people from tennitus. It made no diference! Tinnitus is caused the an problem with the thread like nerve that attaches the ear to the brain. Can you do research or see different specialists? I have found some relief in tinnitus over the years with gentle chiropractic, reike master, meditation, and time over the last 20 years.

ok thanks for the advice,will leave my ear drum alone, will look into other avenue's
