Does it get worse or is the perception of it worse?

I'm beginning to realise my t is the same as it's always been. As I lose hearing my hearing aids replace the missing sounds, but t is still there. I'm convinced it's no worse than it was years ago, but I think that when the brain latches onto it seems to go through the roof. This happens to me from time to time and then I'm back to normal, whatever normal is 🤣

I've been reading through some of my old posts and it's been really interesting. I've read the ones where I've been desperate and the ones where I've said my t is loud, but it's really not bothered me. I'm sure that the t was exactly the same in both cases, but the good times were when my brain tuned it out.

My t has seemed loud for the past few weeks following a botched hearing aid appointment and that put all my focus back onto it. So now I'm going through the process of habituating again. So annoying, but I know I'll be ok. Been there, done that, read the book and got the t shirt!

After today I'm going to give the forum a miss as continually logging in during the day is delaying my healing process. I'll check in later to read any comments then that will be it for a while.

Take care

Ingrid xx

Hi Ingrid,

Sorry you are feeling so upset right now. I think your hearing aid adjustment probably won't have helped - after all your brain was adjusted to the setting you already had.

I think we all go through stages where the sound is more noticeable . I find I hear my tinnitus more in frosty weather as it is so still outside. I don't think that anyone who visits this forum likes having tinnitus - we all understand how intrusive it can be and it is very personal too. I think we all have our low moments - do something that makes you feel good today - and be kind to yourself. Your tinnitus is not who you are - don't let it beat you down xx

Your message was so true and very positive. I have been messaging Ingrid for awhile now and if there is anything positive that can come out of this .... I have made a good friend. My tinnitus is screaming at the moment, but it’s night time and I have just had a glass of wine . Wine definitely sets it off. Yes it’s very intrusive ... I know I have become a recluse and would rather stay at home than be out socialising . One day there will be some sort of relief from this . Take care. Jenny

I can understand the avoiding going out - I don't go out if I know it's going to be noisy, as I can't hear any conversation. If I am truly honest my hearing loss is much worse than my tinnitus - partly due to being given the wrong hearing aid - but that's another story! I think it is good forums such as this exist, where you can reach out to someone who gets why you feel the way you do. I am sure one day they will find something to cure tinnitus - in the mean time we will all find our best ways of coping xx

Hi .... thanks for replying to me . I’m going through a very rough time at the moment... tears and isolating myself , but this will pass. I only have tinnitus in one ear thank goodness. When and how did yours start? Do you want to private message me on face book , my journey has been very interesting! Understand if you don’t though. I’m on Messenger in Book. Take care and keep up the positive vibe 😊

For most people it will get worse as age related hearing loss has a major effect.

Some people can learn to cope better than others.
