Acupuncture?... Hi .. I’m just putting it out there... has anybody had much success with acupuncture to help with their Tinnitus? I’ve tried it a couple of times , but I think it has made it worse. If anyone has tried it I would be very interested to know . Thank you , keep positive 😊
Desperate : Acupuncture?... Hi .. I’m just... - Tinnitus UK
Desperate
Morning,
I tried acupuncture for about 8 sessions, I’m afraid it didn’t work for me, that doesn’t mean it won’t help you, everybody is different. Hope it helps if you go ahead
Thanks Scarlett , I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. I am hesitant to try it as I felt it actually made it worse ... but my GP is encouraging me to keep trying. I tend to do things once then give up. I even tried very expensive patches from Norway but they were useless. Sometimes doing nothing is best! Thanks again .
I bought some of those too! The best advice I have been given is just to get on with your life and the tinnitus will back off. If I’m busy or out walking etc, I don’t listen to it, but as soon as I remember it , it’s there. Yoga works for me, anything that relaxes you, hope you find something that helps you
Yes yoga is great and walking. Unfortunately wine ramps it up but I still enjoy a glass of wine. My biggest regret is all of the operations to try and alleviate the Tinnitus , but it’s done now. Podcasts are great. Do you have it in both ears? Does it affect your hearing? I also take ginkgo tablets but again they don’t do anything. I’ve heard cold laser therapy might help but there is no evidence to say that it does. I don’t burn the midnight oil like I used to and just get on with it. I’m finding these chat lines comforting. Thanks 😊
Hi
I have it mainly in one ear, sometimes in my head. I agree with you It’s horrible to live with, but I’m not going to let it take pleasure away from me in doing the things I love. Mines very intrusive, I can hear it over the tv etc, but I’m lucky in as much as it doesn’t affect my hearing too much. I would imagine it’s worse to be trapped in a world where you can only hear the tinnitus. I’ve given up
On looking for reasons, or searching for cures, I don’t think there are any , I just try to look after my well-being through yoga and exercise and diet . Hopefully you’ll find your way of coping too , I’m sure most people do and I try to take the positive from that. Stay strong
Hi Scarlett , sorry I won’t plague you all weekend. I should be asleep! Even though it doesn’t affect your hearing, I wonder if you could try a hearing aid with a Tinnitus masker? I had a slight hearing loss and I tried one but my hearing got worse so I now have a Cochlear implant which does mask the Tinnitus a bit. I found this hearing aid to be okay though. How long have you had it for? A year ago I went through a very dark time , but like you now , determined not to let it get to me . I’ve changed my life style though. I hope one day someone will come up with something. You sound very positive which is great. At times it can be isolating!
Hi
I’ve had it for nearly 8 months now. I’m waiting at the moment for an appointment for tinnitus retraining therapy, I’ll see what they offer me. I use an app that a audiologist gave me which plays bird and nature sounds when I’m at home. I found that if I have it on when I’m listening to the tv I I can actually enjoy watching tv again. I think we just have to find our own ways of coping and what works for us. I found a very inspiring piece of writing when I was in the very dark days from someone on here. I’ll try to find the link and send it to you. I keep it on my phone and read it when I’m feeling a little down.
I’ve had acupuncture but not for tinnitus
I’m actually this Tuesday going to see a osteopath for my tinnitus and my bad anxiety and back pain, see how it goes.
Ok thanks for your reply... good luck with the osteopath ! 😊😊
Can you please let me know how you go with the Osteo ... I’m considering that too. Thanks 😊
Well I had my osteopath appointment, she was very shocked that the drs were not taking my ear problem seriously and that I’ve had no scans
She gave me some cranial therapy, I must say I feel better. My head was feeling like an intense pressure cooker and that’s relieved a hell of a lot. The general humming I have has lowered in volume and I was able to lay in bed earlier in a quiet room for 15mins before my left ear started to buzz on and off! That’s a big improvement for me, as that was raging., I didn’t expect an instant fix, but definitely has calmed it all down for the time being.
Hi Momoko.. thanks for your reply. So pleased the osteo was able to help you .. keep going. I have a Cochlear implant , so now have no hearing but my raging Tinnitus. You don’t mention much about hearing tests.? Or I may have missed that. I’m going to try some cranial work and acupuncture? I’ve tried both before , but they haven’t done a great deal .... but I keep going. Good luck. Keep the anxiety down , as that really helps 😊
I had acupuncture several times immediately after a session my Tinnitus would reduce for a short time but it has never got rid of it .
Oh ok that’s interesting.. thanks for your reply. I’ve had it a few times and it’s actually made it worse, but going to a Dr next week so fingers crossed it may work. If it does I will definitely keep going.
I tried it for months no help at all.
hi, sorry to hear it got worse, the more you try the worse you will feel because you trying to hard to stop these sounds , if you do find anything to help will be great , if you try too hard all your doing is stressing your self and this is making your tinnitus worse ,stress worry depression , these are what is making you feel this way , just plod on and keep looking but try and cope best you can your brain is complicated and you have to be carefull , i wish you luck but please try stop trying too hard it will get you down ,
Thanks so much pebble..... you are so right . For the first 2 years I would spend every waking moment seeking a cure, to realise there isn’t one. I was obsessed with getting better. I have pain as well after a lot of operations so was hoping acupuncture may help that too. I’m much calmer now , and although I hate it. At least I have a good life . Thanks , take care
Hi I’ve tried acupuncture had about 8 sessions I think it does help but you have to have two or three sessions a week. But at £45 a pop it’s really expensive and it doesn’t stop it I think it just calms you down a bit I would probably still go if it wasn’t so pricey. My view is we have to try everything and just rule them out one by one. Good luck and maybe just maybe some one some day will find the answer cheers.
I went to 3 different acupuncturists (on the recommendation of my neuro-otologist ). Had numerous sessions, which did not help my tinnitus at all. It did seem to help a bit with general stress reduction. One of the acupuncturists actually told me she did not think tinnitus responded well to acupuncture. My neuro-otologist did tell me he had patients who improved with it.
I guess everyone responds differently.
Thanks Elaine. Yes I do think everyone is different. My ENT is encouraging it, but I have lots of pain too so have to be careful . I might try again, but at a later date. Tinnitus is ramped up at the moment so need to settle. Thank you 😊
Hi, i have tried acupuncture, i had 10 sessions costing me £400 that did nothing, i was urged to carry on but where do you draw the line! I started with tinnitus in September 2017 out of the blue, one day i had it and it has never gone away, it was ok only light sound at first but now over a year later it is really loud mostly in my left ear but also low pitched in my right as well, i have migraine's and this tinnitus is making them worse. Sometimes it drives me mad, does it ever go away?
Hello , thanks for your email . I’m not going to continue with the acupuncture,,, yes it’s very expensive ! Sorry to hear you just woke up with Tinnitus and it’s getting worse, unfortunately it does. I had a grommet put in my ear 3 years ago and woke up with Tinnitus. It was mild then , but the more upset I got, the worse it became. I had 8 operations and now onto my second Cochlear implant. The implant does mask the Tinnitus, but nights are awful . I am finally listening to my audio and Drs and just trying to get on with it. I have been through a very dark time, but going well now. Don’t let it run your life ... keep active and busy and take each day as it comes. Good luck !, 😊😊
hi desperate, ive had T for nearly 6 years now and i tried accupuncture about4 years ago. i can honestly say the only thing that it made chnage was my financial state, all those sessions costing money did absolutely nothing for my T so dont even go there it will only cost you lots as they say you need more sessions i got 6 when i realised nothing was any better and my wallet was worse of!!!!!!!!!! cheers, craw.
Hi drumcraw ,
Thanks for your email . Yes I agree with the acupuncture. It doesn’t really work. In Australia , which is where I live, it is covered a lot by our health insurance , especially if you see a dr . I’ve had Tinnitus for 3 years now, but have a Cochlear Implant. Not many people on this chat line have mentioned hearing aids. My tinnitus certainly gets worse when I think about it, so I’ve finally learned to accept it and not fight it. I wish though I had just left my ear alone and just put up with it. There isn’t much research here ,,, I’m hoping overseas ... someone will come up with something . Hang in there , we aren’t alone !
It did not work for me but you should try it because everyone is different and it could work for you . I try everything... keep positive
