Do any of you have problems with your parathyroid glands?

My calcium was slightly over range and PTH was 7.4 just over the higher end of range(7.2)

I was wondering if there’s a connection with thyroid problems and parathyroid..I have graves.

Sorry you've not had any replies yet.

My comment will bring your post back up the news feed, so hopefully others will see it and respond.

Can you add some background to your profile? Did your Graves go into remission? or do you still take antithyroid? Did you have definitive treatment, as surgery can damage parathyroid as a complication.

PTH should also be tested following RAI treatment. Some studies suggested it should be tested annually, but I believe this is not automatically completed.

The parathyroid are (4 tiny glands) located by thyroid - but have a separate function to thyroid.

When testing PTH it must be done on a site with lab facilities as sample has to be processed quickly. What tests have you had? Can you add ranges to calcium PTH result.

Usually, calcium, PTH, vitamin D (possibly phosphate / & other bone profile markers) should be tested together.

Low vitamin D can also be an issue.

Hi PurpleNails

Thank you for responding.I have joined groups and looking into the condition more whilst I await more tests.Im in remission for graves but do still take 2.5 mg of carbimazole every other day.My vitamin D levels are normally on the lower side… last one being 77 but that’s with a high dose spray.I’ll be able to post more up to date labs hopefully soon.

hi, I can’t comment on any link between the two but do know they have totally separate functions. You might find this FB group helpful ( I have nothing to do with it!)
