Hashimotos

Hi,

My wife has been diagnosed with Hashimotos disease by her doctors in Egypt. Thyroid disease runs in her family, her mother has it, but she regulates it with medicine and has never been diagnosed with Hashimotos.

Anyways, her doctors in Egypt are absolutely useless, and she doesnt trust her blood work or the medication levels she is on. She has really bad health anxiety and I want to make sure that she is seen by a doctor she trusts that they know what they are doing and what they are talking about.

Currently she is really struggling with it, like really badly.

She is from the US originally, but I am from UK. I am looking into taking her to see a private endocrinologist doctor in the UK. Is there any that you would recommend, preferably London based as we will be flying into London.

Apologies for the lack of information, or mis interpretation of anything.

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum Moonwai1986

So we can offer better advice to you and your wife, can you tell us more about her thyroid condition, eg when she was diagnosed, ongoing symptoms, current medication & dosage, plus blood test results (with ranges in brackets) for:

TSH

FT3

FT4

Plus any antibody and key vitamin tests (ferritin, folate, vitamins D and B12)

Can you get these tests completed in Egypt?

Increased anxiety has been the worst symptom of having a thyroid condition for me and it is always worse if thyroid medication or key vitamins (ferritin, folate, vitamins B12 and D) are not optimal.

My GP initially diagnosed me with ‘ health anxiety’, suggested I saw a psychotherapist & offered me anti depressants. Joining this forum helped me realise that my symptoms were related to being under medicated and I followed forum advice to improve this.

Would you consider an online appointment or do you specifically want face to face in London? As requests need to be via private message only, admin will close this post to replies (as per forum guidelines) but do start a new post with further questions/ fill in the profile to tell us about your wife’s thyroid journey so far.

Sending you both best wishes.

Welcome to the forum Moonwai1986. You can download a list of suggested private practitioners simply by filling out this form thyroiduk.org/contact-us/ge...

It is not permitted to discuss specific practitioners with others on the open forum though, so I am closing this post to further replies, to prevent accidental forum discussion.

If you wish to request feedback from other members on any of those practitioners listed, you can start a new post asking for members who have seen that practitioner to private message you with their experience.
