My thyroid story

Hi I’m Alev and I’m new here, I’ve had thyroid cancer a couple of years back and had a full thyroidectomy due to cancer on both sides and spreading to my lymph nodes. To explain my story I need to go back to the beginning about over 10 years ago when I first started having symptoms and problems. For all that time I’ve been sent to hospital and doctors but no one took my symptoms seriously, up until I went back to my Gp and complained about everything that happened.

After an apology I was sent to see a specialist consultant who even then didn’t want to do anything, I was persistent and adamant that I wasn’t going to leave he’s consulting room until he agreed to do something about it, in my scans and biopsies something did show but I was told that it’s nothing to worry about, anyway had my first surgery. About 2-3 weeks later I had a phone call telling me that they had found cancer, and was asked if I wanted my other thyroid taken out as there was a very big chance of it being on that side too. So during my 2nd surgery I had cardiac arrest and caught an infection. Came home not knowing anything about this, I became so unwell that I couldn’t breathe and my coughing was so bad that my muscles in my chest tore and bleed, so rushed back to hospital was told that I had internal bleeding and during my 3rd surgery I had another cardiac arrest, was put into a coma. Was given 50% chance of survival. 4-5 days later woke up and now I’m here trying to help others as a cancer life coach! But I am left with a paralysed vocal cord which can cause me to be out of breath and tired, but a small price to pay for my life.

welcome to the forum

Congratulations on finally getting treatment and gosh you have been through the mill

Hopefully you are now feeling well

Breathlessness can also be linked to low iron/ferritin

Important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually on levothyroxine

What vitamin supplements are you taking

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Hi and thank you for being kind. I am better than I was during my cancer treatment. I also had radiotherapy after surgery.

Yes I am taking vitamin D supplements my Iron levels are very good so no problem with that.

My Levothyroxine brand is always the same at prescription.

Thank you

Alev
