Welcome to the group. If you could complete your profile it helps members understand your thyroid journey so far and be able to advise you better. Click on your image icon to start. Fill out the free text box at the top.

Can you tell us a bit about why you had the blood test? Are you diagnosed hypothyroid or looking for a diagnosis?

Your results point towards hypothyroidism as your TSH is above the reference range.

To get a diagnosis and begin treatment in the UK one usually needs to have 2 blood results with TSH above range 3 months apart.

When you have another blood test try and book it for 9am or earlier which is when TSH is highest. Fast that morning, only drinking water until after the test.

Exactly what were your vitamin results along with the reference range for each test?

GPs often tell us our results are normal but we will feel a lot better when they are OPTIMAL.

Thanks. Just embarking on a diagnosis journey.

Results were:

Folate 5.9 (5.4-24)

B12 277 (211-911)

Ferritin 17 (10-323)

Also had "normal" liver function test calcium bone profile, yrea and electrolytes and full blood count.

I'm having blood tests done again before I see GP as they want to recheck thyroid and FSH as didn't get a usable sample for that one.

Querying thyroid issues/ iron deficuency/ perimenopause.

So try and book the blood test for as early as possible in the day to help show your TSH at its highest.

Ask GP to test for Coeliac disease, also a Vit D test. If GP won't test vit D: NHS easy postal kit vitamin D test £31 via

Ferritin is deficient. NICE guidelines state a level of 30 or below is deficiency and your GP should prescribe iron tablets. Take these with orange juice or vitamin C to help them absorb.

Folate is too low. As its still just about within the reference range your GP is unlikely to prescribe and it will be up to you to buy supplements which I will suggest later.

B12 is very low. Needs to be 500+ on that range.

Are you vegan or vegetarian? If not:

B12 - do you have symptoms of B12 deficiency? The reference range for B12 is very wide and cut off point too low. theb12society.com/signs-and...

If you do then you should discuss this with your doctor for further tests for Pernicious Anaemia.

If not, then start with a methyl B12 sublingual spray or lozenge for a week, then add a good B complex. Once you run out of the separate B12 just continue with the B complex.

Looks like your TSH is too high but we need the reference ranges. Are you on thyroxine?
