Does Alcohol Make Ones Heart Race?

Hi,

I began Armour 120 mcgs on March 21st of this year. I've had bouts of insomnia since then and have upped my Clonazepam from 1 mg to 2 mgs. The anxiety is high and I get the shakes in the mornings and afternoons. Drinking red wine (Cabernet) makes my heart race and forget about Tequila---causes insomnia. Why the change in heart rate while on Armour? While on Synthroid, I would get sleepy while drinking.

Thank you for listening.

Being sleepy on Levo and hyped up on NDT are both results of too little/too much thyroid hormone. Some of us find Armour T3 potent and have had to reduce dose and add back in a little Levo to achieve better T4:T3 ratios for our individual needs, and what poor adrenal function can manage.

Have you tested thyroid hormone levels since being on Armour?

I used to love a cold glass of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc but since high histamine issues several years ago, I can’t drink wine at all! And although I love gin, after menopause if I drink too often I get insomnia issues too (like now 😬).

I would suggest it’s not the alcohol per se that causes your heart to increase but a result of drinking alcohol combined with poor adrenal and thyroid health that can’t support it.

Dang on the latter part, but now I know to cut back on Armour when I get to feeling like I need to sprint down the sidewalk!New Endo appt in the making.

Thanks for your reply.

Any alcohol can raise blood pressure and heart rate - it depends how much and how often you indulge. The odd glass clears the body quite slowly (half life 4 to 5 hours) but high intake takes longer.

Personally, a glass of red in the evenings signals the end of the work day and time to relax, and I feel calms me down. I suppose we all react differently, but I go by a little of what you fancy does you good!
