It's not unusual to pick up other metabolic issues because hypothyroidism screws our metabolic physiology.

My endo told me that if you are under medicated your blood sugar and cholesterol can be raised . Make sure you hve the full thyroid panel of bloods done TSH, T4 and T3 its important to see how all three are atvsame time. Also important to chk things like vit D3, B12, folate and ferritin when you hve thyroid issues. Hve yr blood test done 1st thing in morning and take yr meds straight after blood test not before.

Yup. Raised levels here too recently . I have hypothyroidism, pernicious anemia (b12) and low folate. I worry that oral treatment for raised A1c will have detrimental effect on b12 level which I fight hard to keep high enough.

Almost everyone's had COVID-19 by now, and that's a risk factor. In one study, 32% of confirmed cases over the age of 40 were pre-diabetic, and 10% diabetic, more than three months after their infection.

Things look far less clear-cut, with regard to thyroid levels: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Over the past 12 months I've gone from 37 to 39 Hba1c and couldn't figure out why, until I found out I can't absorb B12 anymore and my folate was low, as was ferritin and VitD. I've started tackling these deficiencies and now get B12 injections, hopefully I'll have a different picture in a few months. In addition to that, I've had bother with my pharmacy constantly giving me a different supplier for my 25mcg tablets and noticed TSH went from a stable 0.7(ish) to 1.5 and crikey, the frozen hands and feet were back with a vengeance. Now I'm thinking that may be influencing an Hba1c rise too.

My A1C also has been creeping up over the years to a pre-diabetic range. It is baffling to me because I am on a vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free diet and exercise an hour every day. I don't consume much sugar and watch my carbs but my number does not come down. I blame this on the hashimoto's. I don't need to take medication for cholesterol, but that is creeping up too. From what I've read both cholesterol and blood sugar are affected by hashimoto's. I keep wondering what's going to pop up next with me.

I’ve been pre-diabetic the last few years and have read conflicting things about links with hypothyroidism. I’ve read that having hypothyroidism can make your hbA1c artificially high but I’ve also read it can make it artificially low. And there was little explanation around this, or I didn’t understand it!

I recently listened to a Zoe podcast where a science guy said not to worry if you get diabetes after the age of 75 because it takes a decade to damage the body. I was rather relieved by this information.

Then I read something about dementia, a Zoe podcast again, sorry for the lack of reference -

“this rise in pre-diabetes and diabetes is a real contributory factor to increasing dementia. And then presumably that means if you can reverse the pre-diabetes or control the type two so it doesn't continue to get worse, that would lower your risk of getting dementia”.

So now I worry about it again!
