Heart Arrhythmia

Hello All. I've posted in the past and remember that some have said that I could increase my dose of T3 to perhaps alleviate the arrhythmia I have been experiencing for many years. I take 75 MCG LEVO (for 35+ years with varying dosages) and 5 MCG Lio each morning. Any comments at this time would be greatly appreciated. I feel more energy since taking T3 (approximately 3 years), but from time to time I feel like something is not quite correct in my chemistry.

The results of the recent blood test show the following results:

TSH: 0.96 - range, 0.40 - 4.50 mIU/L

FT4: 1.2 - range, 0.8 - 1.8 ng/dL

FT3: 3.5 - range, 2.3 - 4.2 pg/mL

Ferritin: 37 - range, 16 -288 ng/mL

Vit B12: 430 - range, 200 - 1100 pg/mL

Folate: 12.8 - range, ng/mL:

Low: 3.4, Borderline: 3.4 - 5.4, Normal: 5.4

Vit D: 25-OH range, 20 - 30.

My cardiologist said that I have an arrhythmia that is not in an area of the heart that is concerning, however, there are runs of 11 fast beats that are concerning. There were 500 of these episodes in the 2 weeks I was on a heart monitor. As of now, I am not on any heart medicines. I have mentioned to the doctor that maybe the arrhythmia is related to my thyroid. I have an appointment in one week and hope to have some comments from those on this forum before then. Thank you for any comments!

Your ferritin (iron stores) is very low, and low iron/ferritin can cause palpitations, arrhythmia, tachycardia (fast heart rate). It's just under 8% through the reference range.

.

Note that low B12 can make improving iron more difficult than it needs to be. Your B12 is not optimal. These links are helpful on the subject of B12:

Personally I supplement B12 with methylcobalamin which is available on supplement supplier websites

.

There are various opinions on what constitutes a good ferritin level.

Ferritin: 37 - range, 16 -288 ng/mL

1) Mid-range or slightly over = 152 - 170 (ish)

Normal ferritin levels for women are between 20 and 200 ng/mL. According to some experts, ferritin levels of at least 40 ng/ml are required to stop hair loss, while levels of at least 70 ng/ml are needed for hair regrowth. The optimal ferritin level for thyroid function is between 90-110 ng/ml.

It is important to note that supplementing iron to raise levels above optimal is not a good strategy. Excess iron is difficult for the body to get rid of, and it can end up being deposited in organs and arteries where it isn't wanted.

I’m male and have had arrhythmias for many years (before my thyroid problems). In last 3 years I got occasional atrial fibrillation and now take beta blocker to stop that. It greatly reduces the arrhythmias and is more comfortable. I’m on T3 only.
