So I just had my dreaded Endo appointment at Royal Berkshire Hospital and the Endo prescribed me T3 but wanted me to add in 50mcg of Levo as my TSH is so suppressed and my T4 levels are non-existent. I agreed to try.
I think this Endo is not on our list so his name is Dr (name redacted by TUK admin), I’m pretty sure he’s Chinese.
He did listen and didn’t treat me like an idiot. He had a trainee doctor with him and they were both nice. His English is not the best but we got on OK.
Everyone was very kind and nice.
I have been taking 3x 25mcg Tiromel and I got Mercury Pharma Liothyronine Sodium, the pills are 20mcg, he told me to take them 3x and the 50mcg Levo first thing in the morning. I’ll have to get used to that 🙈
Has anyone had this kind of change to their meds? If so, anyone experienced any issues?
He also talked to me about my HRT and asked if I was taking the Utrogestan every day or two weeks on, two weeks off. He said if I wanted to have a withdrawal bleed, then take it two weeks on, two weeks off. That makes sense but my GP told me to take it every day. Does anyone know what’s the best way to take it? I’ve gone through the menopause but I’m only 47.
Thank you very much 🙏🏼🌷

Regarding Utrogestan, I feel best if I take it every evening rather than 2 weeks on/ 2 weeks off. I’ve found this keeps my anxiety levels more balanced. I think it’s trial and error to find what works best for you.
Sure, happy to DM if anyone wants his name, no problem, sorry about posting it in my op, I didn’t realise and I was so excited to be the bearer of some good news for our little community. 😊
Thank you re the HRT advice! That suits me just fine, to take it every night. It is definitely helping with my sleep and with anxiety too! May I ask please, do you ever get any lower abdominal cramps? I had a few lately, feels like ovulation pain when I still used to have periods. Strong cramps. I had some today and was just wondering if this is normal as it’s freaked me out a bit. Thank you ☺️🙏🏼
Also, how long is it ok to be on HRT for? Just so I know? Everyone seems to have different ideas so far and I’m just trying to establish some sort of ‘middle of the road approach.
I’ve been taking it 18months & do adjust oestrogen slightly up & down according to how I feel (ie 2 or 3 pumps). When I had cramps, I felt in needed more (2.5-3 pumps). It is very much trial & error to find a dose that suits you at a particular time.
Hi there, I’m very new to this forum and have been looking for someone who is juggling thyroid meds and HRT - I am too. I see a private specialist for all my treatments incl HRT.
After a total thyroidectomy, I started on 150mcg then to 175mcg Levo but I wasn’t doing well and we changed it to include 50mcg T3. I’m now on 125mcg Levo & 40mcg Liothyronine (T3). Before this last change I had suppressed TSH, normal T4 and low T3. I take all of these first thing in the morning along with vitD.
Then I went to my menopause specialist and we went through the HRT. I’m peri menopausal and, to manage symptoms and the thyroid connection, we upped the estrogen gel to 2 pumps a day in morning and 2weeks on/2weeks off with Utrogestan which I take in the evening. With no T3 I was on 14 day cycles but last one was 24 day. Different for you as you’re through the menopause perhaps.
I’m only a few months into working this all out and it’s hard, really hard at times. My menopause specialist gave me the best help so far when she said the thyroid hormones, sex hormones and stress hormones all work together, they aren’t waving from a distance but they are holding hands. They work closely and you need to be mindful of that.
I’m testing every 8 weeks for thyroid and on 3mth reviews with menopause specialist.
I’m also navigating severe digestion issues which I’m not yet sure of the thyroid connection.
I find taking the meds first thing is easier than later in the day around food & tea/coffee.
Hope some of this helps you with the HRT bit and also to know there’s someone else navigating this puzzle 🧩 ☺️
