More advice please

Hi everyone,

Further to my previous posts, I saw private Endo last week who won’t prescribe T3 until Short Synacthen test is done for borderline low cortisol of 248 and reverse t3 blood test done to confirm poor t3 conversion (???).

I have been told today by his secretary (after arranging the tests for next week 😫) that I have to stop estrogen HRT for 6 weeks before the SST . Does anyone know if this includes transdermal patches? Several reliable articles online say it’s ok to continue with patches , but oral HRT must be stopped.

I don’t know what state I would be in if I have to stop these for 6 weeks, my thyroid symptoms are currently awful

Hello. I was using patches when I was booked for SST. I wasn't told to remove it but read about it myself a few days before the test so removed it then. It was probably too late in the day to make a difference. I think that if you are on hrt then your test result needs to be higher. Make sure whoever is interpreting your results is aware of your hrt.

Thanks so much for your kind advice, my Endo actually emailed earlier to say not to stop using the patch before the test and he will interpret the reading taking it into account,
