Test results - TSH out of range

Hello I went to my GP a few months back to have my thyroid tested, he only tested TSH ( unsure of result) He said all was well and no further action was required, however I have continued to feel unreasonably tired / always cold/ loosing a lot of hair / weight gain / low flat mood. This has been going on for a long time ( years) I tested via Medichecks after reading posts here and have recieved some results attached.

Should I re-approach my GP who says everything is ok ? What should I be asking him to do to support me ? I can see TSH is out of range but my other results are ok and I was green for autoimmunity too. Thank you

Unfortunately a lot of NHS GP's like to wait until your TSH is 10 or over before initiating treatment, which is barbaric imo. Unfortunately your frees are also in range and you have no raised antibodies either.

If you had either a below range FT4/FT3 or high antibodies then you would have grounds for asking for Levothroxine to be initiated. I can only advise maybe trying a different GP, emphasise how rough you feel, symptoms etc, how its affecting your quality of life.

Also it might be a good idea to test your key nutients, like ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D, as these are often very low when hypo, and can all contribute to symptoms fatigue, depression and hair loss. If these are low and you address them it could certainly help you feel better and if you do start on Levo help in conversion of FT4 to FT3.

I'm sorry you are playing the waiting game, until your TSH is high enough to treat. Its a travesty how badly thyroid is treated by NHS 😩

Just so you know, your other results are not OK. Your FT3 is only 35.14% through the range, and your FT4 25.00%. If they were 'normal' (euthyroid) the FT4 would be around 50% through the range with the FT3 slightly lower.

Also, your FT3 is higher in range than your FT4, which is a sure sign of a failing thyroid. So, things are going to get worse, not better. Might be an idea to point this out to your doctor?

Absolutely, go back and ask for a re-test and make sure it is pre 9am when your TSH peaks, then ask to be treated as you can list off all the symptoms!
