THS Levels

hi I have just had my annual thyroid blood test which has come back as 0.4 classed as normal. I am over 65 and taking 600mcg of levothyroxine over 7 days. My question is if my TSH levels are normal should I stop taking my meds or reduce my dosage?

Grateful for any advice

Short answer is you should NOT change dosage based on TSH alone. And absolutely should not stop Levo for that reason either.

You may or may not need a dose change - but definitely not because of a TSH result. Your post doesn’t give us enough information to give you a good answer.

Can you share your full thyroid test results including ranges? Do you have Hashimotos? How long have you been on Levo and when was your last dose change?

Also, how do you feel? Good? Symptomatic?

Share your full bloods, how you feel, and any other highlights of your thyroid journey so the board can weigh in.

Welcome to the forum Patchoulijulie,

So we can offer better advice, can you tell us more about your thyroid condition, eg any ongoing symptoms. If you feel well on your current dose there is no need to adjust your medication.

To offer better advice we need to see test results (with ranges in brackets) for FT3 and FT4 alongside TSH, plus any antibody and key vitamin tests (ferritin, folate, vitamins D and B12)

If your GP is unable to complete all the above (eg if TSH is within range, some surgeries may not be able to access FT4 and FT3 tests), you could look to do this privately, as many forum members do, for a better picture of your thyroid health:

The aim of taking Levothyroxine is to restore your thyroid hormone levels to normal - and to continue on a dose that maintains these levels.

Regular blood tests check whether the amount of hormone replacement needs tweaking up or down but adjustments should only be based on TSH with FT3 and FT4 levels and on symptoms.
