Is anyone on Teva T3 brand? If so have you been ok on it.

Morningside seems a popular T3 brand on this forum.

Any feedback on either of these brands or any other brands except Roma would be greatly appreciated.

I used Teva successfully for a couple of years my only difficulty was - they were difficult to split. Why not Roma? I am on these now due to different sizes, no problems???

Ive been on Thybon Henning with no problem but i havent felt right on Roma. I havent been on them long but long enough to know i dont like the side effects i am experiencing.I thought it would affect me when i changed brand because i seem to be very sensitive to changes.

Roma so far, headache especially when i wake in the mornings, headaches are not something i get, dizzy, blurred vision, brain fog , nausea, ichy skin, stiff neck, spot on chin thats raised and angry, ive never suffered with spots on my face.

I was on morningside for 2 years and felt great. Then the pharmacy changed my t3 to roma and felt crap and yes you couldnt split them as they are capsules. I also developed a raised spottu rash on my chin. Went to my gp and asked him to stipulate tablets (not capsules) on my script. I told him to request 20mcg tablets as these are cheaper than getting 10 or 5mcg, as i suspected the change was due to cost. He agreed and am back on mormingside and feeling much better However, they cannot always guarantee to give me morningside but no more roma for me

Thanks for that, hopefully i'll be able to sort it out quickly thats if i can get to speak to someone at the surgery 🙈

Yes have been on both via NHS prescription. Decided to stay on Morningside for consistency.I get 5mcg tablets on the NHS.

They tried to change my prescription to Roma but as I split the tablets to get 2,5mcg doses they had to change script back to Morningside as you can't split Roma.

You already split a 10mcg tablet I believe. They will need to prescribe 2 X 5mcg Roma. If you look at the drugs tariff on this site you may be able to compare cost of 1x10mcg against 2x5mcg Roma. Morningside or Teva might be cheaper ,which will be a good argument.

I am taking 5mg twice a day. I have been prescribed Roma in 5mg hard capsules. I was on Thybon Henning 20mg so split it into quarters which seemed to work fine.Im hoping it wont be a battle changing to another brand, if im feeling unwell surely the pharmacist at my gp surgery will have to change my prescription.

20mcg tablets cut in 1/4 are cheaper than 2 x 5mcg capsules

You have 3 NHS brand options at 20mcg

Teva - lactose and mannitol free

Morningside

Mercury Pharma

I know they dont like to prescribe 20mg to split into quarters. It was explained to me that its ok to split a tablet in half when it has a line going through the middle but if you cut the half again into a quarter the dosage may not be equal so it could be more or less in each quarter, if that makes sense. Its what i did with Thybon Henning 20mg and it was fine but if they use it as an argument i'll say give me 10mg to split then.

Only Morningside make 10mcg …..and it’s expensive

Odinil profile image
Odinil in reply toSlowDragon

They wont prescribe that then

I think argument is mid-placed. T3 is not a medication where you have to take an exact dose each day, or at each doing, so to my mind if you divide a 20mcg tablet into quarters and in total you take that whole tablet in a day, then why does it matter if one ‘quarter’ is slightly bigger or smaller than another quarter? It doesn’t.

I have tried Thybon Henning and I thought it was pretty good, possibly the best. On the NHS the T3 that comes closest is Mercury Pharma ( Advanz) followed by Morningside in my opinion. I haven’t tried Roma capsules, but I would reject them if offered due to them containing gelatine, plus I have heard other bad reviews of them. There is no need in this day and age for a pharmaceutical product to be made with an animal by-product of the meat industry when so many people are trying to consume less meat or go vegetarian/vegan. It’s shockingly bad.

I'll have to speak to my gp and ask that they change my prescription. Its only been a week on Roma and im getting some unpleasant side effects already, im not prepared to see if it settles down, not good.

I am on 20mcg of T3 via NHS and they gave me Teva. I had side effects so asked to change to MP and have had no headaches and slightly more energy. The pharmacy only order MP for me which I’m so pleased with.

I tried both years ago-Teva made me pee a lot and Morningside seemed stronger than it should be, I lowered my dose. Switched to Thybon henning from Germany, which is fine for me. Have you been getting Thybon Henning through NHS?

Odinil profile image
Odinil in reply tobellk

No had to see private endocrine to get prescription. He sent it to Roseway for Thybon Henning, three months supply, then another three months, in between this time my gp agreed to fund it on nhs. I was given Roma brand which doesnt agree with me at all. To be honest if i cant find a T3 brand that suits me on the nhs, i will have to go private again to get Thybon Henning, i never had any side effects on it, my vision improved, no headaches, more energy. I fought so hard as well to get it funded. I cant go through what i went through with Levo and still am making sure i get the same brand every prescription, not easy. So far i havent got off to a good start.

Thanks. For me, paying £300 a year for a brand which suits me is worth it, though I have to get it sent to friends when they are in Italy. But useful to know NHS can supply if enough pressure put on .

I was told by Roseway that if i could email up to date blood tests, they have a private pharmacist who charge £30 for a private prescription, they would send me Thybon Henning to me. I shall be speaking to them today to confirm

Hello, I can confirm about Roseway Labs. You fill in a questionnaire and send confirmation that you have thyroid issues. I sent a copy of my repeat prescription. You need to send a copy of your latest lab results too. You pay £30 for appointment with their prescribing pharmacist (she is a really lovely lady too) She agreed and sent a prescription to the labs, you get a link for secure payment. I paid £60 for 100 x Thybon Henning 20mcg tablets, this included postage too. Definitely could recommend, I’m not sure if other brands are offered or what the cost would be. I had phone appointment on Wednesday afternoon and received my meds on the Friday. Good luck on your thyroid journey x

Thank you so much. When you say you sent a copy of your repeat prescription to their prescribing pharmacist, i thought it was their pharmacist that did the prescription.I'm so glad i found out about this.

Do you get your bloods done privately?

I get mine done by my nhs endo.

I also spoke to a lady at Roseway about three months ago and we discussed it then, she was so nice and helpful.

Isnt it a relief not to have all the stress trying to make sure you get the same brand at every prescription. I'll still have that problem with levo im sure but at least it wont be both.

Auders in reply toOdinil

Morning, I sent a copy of repeat Levo prescription. She sent the T3 straight to Roseway, I have got a repeat T3 script when it runs out. Will make appt with her in 4 months to see how things are doing. I’ve done my bloods privately, like to keep an eye on my iron too. Unfortunately I haven’t got a lot of faith in the NHS at the moment, so as far as I can I’ll sail my own boat! Good luck x

I feel exactly the same, I feel sorry for anyone starting out on their journey. When i had my thyroid removed they said just pop a pill each day you'll be fine, for some maybe they are, but ive had an uphill journey for years thanks to all the politics surrounding thyroid medication.Sounds like you have it all under control, well done x

Hi,

I was on Mercury Pharma for a long time, 20 years, as they were the only ones who made T3 years ago.

Then they couldn't get them for some reason (several pharmacies), so I had Morningside. They didn't seem as strong as MP and I got migraines to start with, but was o.k. after about a month and got used to them.

So I was on Morningside for a couple of years but then they couldn't get them either!

Went back to MP and again it affected me with migraines for a month again, so I have come to the conclusion that it's not the particular brand that affects me, just when I change them.

So I try and stay on MP now and have a kind Pharmacy who get them for me and Wockhardt Levo.

P.S. Haven't tried Teva T3 but didn't get on very well with Teva Levo, wasn't very strong.

I am on Teva T3 and have been for some years. Pharmacy once gave me Morningside which gave me constant palpitations so had to stop. Back on to Teva and have had no problems since. I split a 20 into quarters.

It's so hard isnt it, what suits one doesnt suit another. Im just sick and tired of going through the process of feeling unwell trying out another brand

I've had Teva for years. Occasionally it gets swapped for something else. Unlike many on here, I seem to be able to tolerate any brand and I take it with breakfast and have no issues - and fingers crossed this will continue.

edit: oops sorry - it's levothyroxine I take, not T3
