Test Results - Could someone have a look please?

Hello I have under active thyroid but recently just not been feeling right and trying to identify why. Could someone take a look at my test results please that I have only just got back? I think I am still waiting for my thyroid levels but it's my Full Blood Count etc. I believe the Dr's said this is satisfactory!

No thyroid or vitamin D, folate, B12 and Ferritin results

Did you find out if ever had high thyroid antibodies in any past tests?

Oh yes 100% but I'm on 100mg of Levothyroxine and apparently they are within range now. My vit D was actually really high at 113

You are legally entitled to actual results and ranges

TSH, Ft4 and Ft3

Folate, B12 and ferritin

Vitamin D is good

Some of your results are slightly out of range but it seems of no concern to your GP. I think they’ll only get worried if results are wildly out of range. It makes a mockery of having ranges doesn’t it. Just make sure to keep a copy so you can compare results next time.

That is exactly what I said to my partner!! But I take iron supplements so fact my RBC is still below range surley isn't good? And I feel anemic! Particularly round my period.

Have you had an iron panel. If not, you could ask your GP to do one or, probably less problematic, get Medichecks iron panel privately. The type of iron you’re taking might not be doing any good. humanbean is the guru on iron.

Thank you. I have just bought an oral spray for iron which I may try. You think that may help?

Are you male or female?

If you are female are you pregnant or not?

Are you vegan or vegetarian?

If you are male then a haemoglobin (Hb) of below 130 is actually defined as anaemic. If you are a non-pregnant female then anaemia is diagnosed with a level below 120. If you are pregnant or have recently given birth it gets more complicated.

See this page and scroll down :

Your Red Blood Cell Count (RBC) is below range which also suggests that you are anaemic. Do you get breathless?

Hello! Thanks again. I am a female in their 40s women who has had under active thyriod for over 10 years, when it was diagnosed. Yes! I get very breathless. And very cold. And often need to sleep in afternoon. Apart from my once week drinking and too much coffee I am pretty healthy. My BMI is good. My diet I think is good. I am not vegetarian but don't eat red meat. Mainly fish. I also exercise, but not excessivley, in morning when I have energy. Then I'm pretty shattered rest of day.

So the out of range results I've spotted are your RBC and lymphocyte count are below range.

A low lymphocyte count might make it more likely that you will get infections and viruses. I don't know how to raise your lymphocyte count.

Improving your iron and ferritin may improve your level of RBC.

cks.nice.org.uk/topics/anae...

If your B12 or folate are low then that could be adding to your problems too.

cks.nice.org.uk/topics/anae...

Many doctors tend to decide if someone is anaemic based on Hb alone and often ignore everything else, even if low RBC or low ferritin will affect the patient's health.

I'd agree with the suggestion that you have an iron panel done, and also that you test B12 and folate. :

and you can get a discount code from here :

If you post the results of an iron panel we can help with suggestions as to whether they are optimal, high, or low.

There are possible problems with just testing ferritin, as described in this thread :

There is more info on iron supplements available in the UK in this reply to another member :

Info on what to look for to diagnose various forms of anaemia :

Info on taking iron supplements :

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Several members have recently been taking heme supplements (a commonly mentioned brand is Three Arrows) to try and raise their iron / ferritin, and have reported some success. I've never tried them myself, but if I still needed iron I'd be trying it out ASAP.

For someone with a severe shortage of iron / ferritin I would suggest an iron infusion, which would normally have to be done privately because the NHS rarely agrees to do them. There are several clinics that do them in London (look up "Iron Clinic"), but I'm not sure about elsewhere.
