Thyroid and Supplements to help Perimenopause

Hi,

I have Hypothyroidism and take Thyroxine and NDT. I have been having symptoms over the last 6-8 months similar to Thyroid which I now believe to be Perimenopause. I started on Collagen which has helped with joint pain and

saw a GP last week who suggested Black Cohosh and Red Clover to see how I go on before looking at possible HRT.

Does anyone know if these are suitable for Hypo as I think the Red Clover contains isoflavones similar to soy ???

Many Thanks

I'm not an expert, but like you an experiencing the joys of the premenopausal and take thyroxine and NDT. I actually make my own red clover tea in the morning with dried clover. I have no idea if it's the wrong thing to take, but it has really helped me.

I did take Agnes Castes which has remarkable qualities for balancing hormones, but it can sometimes cause stomach aches. I have no idea if it interacts badly with thyroid treatments or other supplements. It is working well for friends who don't have thyroid issues. When I was younger Agnes Castes more less stopped the spots that had plagued for over ten years in less than a week. It was a miracle. The other suggestion is Raspberry tea. I haven't tried it but others I know swear by it.

I hope you find something that helps. Good luck.

My sister swears by Black Cohosh and Red Clover but they did nothing for my symptoms in tablet form. I did buy a cooling spray that contained natural supplements & this did help with hot flushes (plus I bought a fan!) Fingers crossed, since starting HRT, my adverse peri menopause symptoms have been alleviated.

Regarding HRT, it may be useful to have a look at Dr Louise Newson’s free Balance App, as I find it really useful for comparing HRT medications & having up to date research articles. There is also an ability to post questions.
