Does anyone else with Hashimotos/ Hypothyroidism here really struggle with the cold. I'm spending hours a day wrapped in a blanket, and that is over the top of several layers/thick jumper, and I am still cold! I hate it so much.
I am so hopeful that Spring is on the way, I feel so much better with the warmth of the sun on my skin.
What do you do to try and keep warm if you also struggle like this?

It is like getting blood out of a stone with my GP at the moment. Latest is they've said to wait until Friday 11th to see if they can find my paper notes from old GP. If nothing by then they'll contact endo for their opinion on restarting the levo. It's painstakingly slow and so frustrating. I'm not actually convinced that even then, they'll restart it, so can see me having no choice but to pay privately. I'm getting a full iron panel done this week privately along with some other bloods. Coeliac negative, but have slowly been buying gluten free options so that I am ready to do a strict gluten free trial ASAP. Just needed to feel prepared before making the change. I made gluten free spaghetti bolognaise last night and it was lovely. Also have bought a bread maker with gluten free setting so can make my own bread etc. I will definitely be doing a strict trial for 3-6 months to see if that helps.
I'm being proactive about it all which is good, just so frustrating about the GP.
I try and avoid foods that are manmade gluten free...naturally gluten free works best for me. Think about trying sour dough bread, it's not gluten free but I do alright on it as long as I stay at a slice a day. I think it has to do with the way it breaks the gluten down. Both the coop and asda do a rustic sour bread for less that £2. I suffer alot feeling cold too - but usually when I'm too hypo
I feel your pain I'm always cold. I recently bought a rechargeable hand warmer to take out with me and I have an electric, heated blanket for indoors. The blanket is my favourite purchase... ever.
I used to be freezing all the time before I started thyroxine. It’s miserable. It’s improved with Levo but T3 is the one that really warmed me up. That has such a short half life that if I forget my lunchtime tablet, I start to get cold. Within half an hour of taking it I’m warm again.
I am always cold despite being medicated. I have a Rab body warmer that I always wear plus a large cashmere pashmina. When watching TV I have a blanket that I wrap round myself and in bed I have an electric blanket. When out and about I wear my face mask because it keeps my face warm!
I wear uggs on my feet so they don’t get cold now so much. I have Ugg boots as slippers too.
It’s unpleasant having to wear so many clothes. I look forward to some sun and heat.
Oh me too, I feel like a lizard needing to bask in the sun lol!
I need to stock up on thermals and heated blankets etc I think, especially with the rising enery costs. It's hard to warm up once the cold has gone right through you.
I had to be outside yesterday for almost an hour. I felt chilled to the bone for a few hours afterwards. I think I’m going to invest in a heated blanket. We’re trying to keep our heating down too. We used to live in France and it was so much warmer generally, although we did get quite cold winters.
Hi! I'd been cold all the time, winter or summer, until I restored my thyroid levels to my personal optimum levels. Unfortunately, it's been a 8 years long battle with doctors who simply didn't want to change my dose. Before then I was like you, wearing layers ans still being cold. Also, was topping myself up with hot drinks. Would never drink cold or warm water. Only hot!
I’m not as cold as before I was. But at that time my body temperature was 35.2 c. average until the endo finally agreed to increase my levo. It took him months to agree and when I increased my liothyronine 15 Mcg he allowed me to stay on that dose So my temperature increased to 35.8 c. And last month I increased my liothyronine to 20 Mcg. And now my temperature stays around 36 .2c My hair stopped falling out also.
Hot water bottle. Almost surgically attached;). If when family/friends snarkily question you on it mis advise them its where you're keeping and drinking your orange juice and vodka. Old school style. Circa 1979;).
Hallo, yes, hate the cold, what I find works best is an upbeat work. Strolling makes me colder, it has to be fast enough to warm up, and then if I come into a warm house I can stay warm for hours, as long as well wrapped up. Thick, thick socks help, as do leggings under trousers and keeping the parts of the body where the blood is near the surface warm helps a lot, ankles, wrists and neck, I wear thick scarves inside even with heating on.
