Hi folks my friend got her results from Medichecks and they were: TSH 0.3 range 0.2-4.2. Free T3 3.4 range 3.1-6.8. Free T4 14.7 range 12-22. TGA 208 range <115 TPO 22.3 range<34 Ferritin 62.9 range 13-150. Folate sample error Vit D 78.70 range 50-70 adequate 75-200 optimal Vit B 12 90.700 range 37.5-150. She feels rough and her Gp is going to decrease her levothyroxine from 100mcgs…..her results don’t speak to me of that but just wanted to double check?!! She suffers from very low iron and she has coeliac disease and was diagnosed with diabetes about 4 years ago and takes insulin for this. There’s a lot going on for her sobI said I’d ask you lovely people for your opinion as I know they’ll be going with the TSH results and that she might be going into Hashis when she was originally diagnosed with Graves’ disease. It was only through her sister who was a consultant geriatrician that they eventually tested her for that as her eyes were a dead give away!

Thanks in advance

TSH 0.3 range 0.2-4.2.

Free T3 3.4 range 3.1-6.8.

Free T4 14.7 range 12-22.

TGA 208 range <115

TPO 22.3 range<34

Ferritin 62.9 range 13-150.

Folate sample error

Vit D 78.70 range 50-70 adequate 75-200 optimal

Vit B 12 90.700 range 37.5-150

Was test done early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Assuming yes…..

Her conversion of Ft4 to Ft3 is poor …..very common if

coeliac or gluten intolerant

Her results suggest she’s under medicated

FT4: 14.7 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22) 27.00%

FT3: 3.4 pmol/l (Range 3.1 - 6.8) 8.11%

Presumably she had RAI for Graves’ disease?

High antibodies probably from Graves’ disease

What vitamin supplements is she currently taking

She needs referral to thyroid specialist endocrinologist for likely T3 prescribed alongside levothyroxine

Email Thyroid U.K. for list of recommended thyroid specialist endocrinologist and doctors who will prescribe T3

tukadmin@thyroiduk.org

Is she type one diabetic or type two

She took the test first thing and before her thyroxine. She’s type 1 diabetic and she was confirmed with Graves but no RAI as they wanted to see if it would settle which she said it did….however she’s the type of person who will carry on regardless of how she’s been feeling….if she cancels something or isn’t at work you know she must be really unwell! She takes Vit D but that’s in range.

Sounds like she needs to double check she was actually tested for TSI or Trab antibodies to confirm Graves’ disease

Frequently early stage Hashimoto’s is misdiagnosed as Graves’ disease if the correct antibodies aren’t tested

Early stage Hashimoto’s can cause transient hyperthyroid results and symptoms before becoming increasingly hypothyroid

It’s possible to have BOTH Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s …but rare

I’ll get her to check that she was actually tested for TSI or Trab antibodies….it wouldn’t surprise me if she wasn’t however!

Has your friend had her antibodies checked to confirm Graves? I was diagnosed Graves initially as I had ‘hyper’ symptoms (and also have a diagnosis of thyroid eye disease) but antibodies actually indicated Hashimotos. Sometimes medics get it wrong & I’m eternally grateful to this forum for encouraging me to check my actual results!

Yes I know how wrong they can get. I was at the end of my tether when I came across my beloved Dr Skinner on an American thyroid website as one of the top docs in the world at that time (2005) and he got me on the road to recovery and I will be for everyone grateful for that. He literally saved my life as I had been feeling terrible for almost 2 years before being off work for 6 months before I saw him. Such a kind, caring man with the wickedest sense of humour. He has been very sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to see him.
