Iodine and hypothyroidism
You and millions of others.
The interplay of iodine and hypothyroidism isn't always clear.
It is probably ideal to have a non-loading urinary iodine test before starting any supplementation of iodine. At least find out where you are starting from - or might find you shouldn't take anything.
Iodine not recommended for anyone with autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s
About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is Hashimoto’s, so it’s likely you have Hashimoto’s
Looking at previous posts you were left far too long on just 50mcg levothyroxine
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year, extremely common to need to supplement to maintain optimal vitamin levels
all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Please add most recent results and ranges
TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 plus thyroid antibodies
Vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
I don't know much about it in truth but the guys on here did respond to my query about it, I confess i've forgotten what they said but you are welcome to read their responses, I just stopped taking my supplement when i realised my body was already producing plenty
