I've been using a pill cutter to split my 25mcg tiromel. I split up quite a few tablets at once and have been storing them in the pill cutter itself just so that they are ready to take when needed. I have only been on T3 for almost 4 weeks but not feeling much benefit at all. The only difference is that I'm no longer suffering with aching and painful muscles and joints like I was. I wondering if cutting them and storing them this way could affect their potency? Too much exposure to oxygen maybe? Wondering how others do it? Do you split as needed or get a few done at once?
Also wondered if it was a bad batch as another member had issues with the same batch I've got. It's a bit too early to retest levels yet and see what's going on, but I feel like I'm going wrong somewhere as I'm feeling almost as bad as I was before I started the tiromel!

It's not beyond the realms of possibility as you are cutting through the outer layer and exposing the inside of the tablet.
I cut my T3 into quarters, taking 2 quarters a day. I cut one tablet into half, then one half into quarters. So I use one half one day and the other half the next day. I store mine in a small screw top jar in the drawer of my bedside cupboard. I never cut more than one at a time.
Thank for your reply. I'll start doing that and see if it makes a difference. I was the person who messaged you a couple of weeks ago about my batch after the other poster wrote about it. Its 20E479 Expiry 10.2021. Did anybody else get in contact about that batch?
Sorry Laiah, I had forgotten you'd sent me a PM. I have had 3 other people notice a problem with that batch and one with the previous batch 20E478. To be honest, I had expected more considering how many people use Tiromel, but it could be that they just haven't had that particular batch, or they haven't seen the recent posts, or they may not be attributing any change in how they feel to their T3, or that just just don't want to get in touch.
Nobody has yet got back to me to say they've contacted their supplier.
Yes I guess it's only a couple of people then. As it's my first time taking any T3 at all I have nothing to compare it too. I just saw the post and noticed I had the same batch number. It could be that I just need a little more of the T3 rather than there being anything wrong with it, but will see what blood tests say in a couple of weeks.
I don't split my T3. I take one daily dose as advised by one of TUK's advisers and who was also an expert in the use of T3 (he himself took his in the middle of the night so that nothing interfered with T3's uptake). I shall give you a link for information. Dr Lowe died through an accident.
Thanks Shaws. I tried taking it all in one dose and had no problems with that, its much easier that way. I still have to cut the pills though as they are 25mcg and I'm only taking half. I think I probably need a bit more T3 but will wait a couple more weeks and do blood tests before changing anything.
I used to take a higher dose but - and I think it might be connected to age - that I now take a smaller dose than I used to and I feel fine and symptom-free. I take 25mcg once daily.
25mcg of Tiromel daily is approx equal to 100mcg of levo. Everyone can have different doses and it all depends on the person feeling well (normal health ) with no clinical symptoms.
I've read that you can't be sure the T3 is distributed evenly through each tablet . I take a 20mcg tablet daily, half in the morning , half in the afternoon . I take the two halves of the same tablet, just in case!
Dr John Lowe (now deceased) who used to be an Adviser to TUK, and he was also an expert in the use of T3 took his 150mcg of T3 once daily (in the middle of the night so that nothing would interfere with its uptake). He stated that T3 had to saturate all of the T3 receptor cells and it then sent out 'waves' and its life could last between one to three days for that dose.
I took one dose and didn't take any on day two or three and my dose did last three days. I've taken it once daily since then.
A scientist/doctor/expert in the use of T3, stated that one daily dose of T3 saturated all of the T3 receptor cells and it 'sent out "waves" between one to three days. He was also an Adviser to Thyroiduk before his death due to an accident. He also took T3 himself.
I took one dose - took none on day 2 or day 3. Yes, my one dose lasted three days.
I still take one daily dose of T3. Feel well and am symptoms-free and that's the ultimate aim. Some people need different doses to achieve the effect that they feel well and symptom-free.
I was given levothyroxine (T4) when first diagnosed. It gave me far more symptoms than before diagnosed and had severe palpitations during the night. The cardiologist was puzzled by my overnight recordings and was considering putting an implant in my heart 'to see what was going on'. Just then T3 was added to T4, I immediately felt a great improvement and then went onto T3 alone following Dr John Lowe's advice
Hi Laiah, I split as I need the T3 rather than in advance, some brands instruct that unused parts of pills must be discarded might be worth checking yours. I think not suffering aches and painful muscles and joints is a sign that it's doing it's job and we have to increase very slowly, I expect you knew that.
Thank you, I'll be doing that from now on. Funnily enough I did have more energy today and I used a new tablet from the pack rather than one of the ones I had cut in advance, so will see how it goes 🤞
