Hello,
I recently had a Thyroid scan on my Thyroid lump. Its bigger than I realised because there's more on the inside. I didn't even notice it initially and it was an Endo from the private list that did and suggested I have a scan. I managed to get the scan on the NHS using the 2 week wait pathway for suspected cancer but it wasn't easy because of going private initially. The NHS did not appear to want to look at my neck or acknowledge anything to do with Thyroid hence me going private in the first place. I have had an appointment come through for a consultant surgeon through the NHS and this appointment is on the 24th November, no one has told me what this appointment is for. From googling I can see that he is also an NHS endo but also works for private too. My GP is nice (new lady) but she said that I need specialist support now as the tests I have had are out of her knowledge, but she denied referring me for this new appointment on the 24th November. I called the hospital and they said that I have to wait for the appointment but my results have not yet come back from the biopsy. I feel in limbo, with my experience thus far I struggle to have faith that im being looked after well and its hard just sitting and waiting for the appointment on 24th November. I did think that at my appointment i was told i would be called with my results but i was a bit panicked from having had the biopsy so i wasn't listening very well.
I am still having a follow up with the private endo that found the Thyroid lump. Ive sent him blood tests and 2x 24 hour urine test results that he had asked for and I had done through NHS. He is willing to trial me on Levo even though I dont meet the traditional NHS guidelines for treatment of hypo. however he wanted to check out other issues beforehand. Having a private appointment has accidentally bumped me up the list on NHS because of what the private endo discovered and he also does try his best to work with NHS, once he has made them aware i guess to a certain extent they have a duty of care to act. They didnt though until i self advocated ie said to my Dr 'dont you think that i need a scan of my Thyroid using 2 week wait for suspected cancer' (found this rule on google) with the back up of the private endo it was hard for them not too. I do feel it is a fight though, that GP is more likely to say normal no action even when its not.
