Hi. I have Hashi and take Levo 100mg a day, also a subscribed beta-blocker and mild diuretic. but on reading various recommendations for supplements that can help hair loss, insomnia etc I'm now taking 2 x Hair Skin & Nails, 4 x probiotic, 1 x Selenium, 1 x thiamin, 1 x NAC, 1 garlic pearl, andI'm suddenly very tired, lackluster and just ant to sleep. am I overdoing the pill-popping? fell rubbish.

We can only say if you are overmedicating if we have blood results and ranges. Have you recent results for tsh, ft4, ft3, b12, vitamin d, folate, ferritin and all the others you are supplementing?

I insisted my GP, also Hashi, did a full thyroid blood-check including t3 ,t4, etc but looking at the results I can see only TSH, he didnt even bother with TPO's I had to go back to a nicer doctor and get that done. I have high iron I know that much. Think I'll go to Medicheck again and get full tests.

If you know you have Hashi's, there's absolutely no point in retesting the antibodies. They fluctuate, but Hashi's doesn't go away, nor get better. So, we concentrate on treating the resulting hypo and nutritional deficiencies, and forget the antibodies.

What is in the Hair Skin & Nails?

Hair skin and nails probably has biotin in so stop taking seven days before blood tests

Beta blockers can have a negative effect on thyroid hormones so I wonder why you're being prescribed them? Are they for palpitations? Palpitations, hair loss and insomnia can all be due to both high or low thyroid levels. The beta blockers might be confusing things.

You also need to say what amounts of all those other supplements you're taking. Too much of anything can be just as bad as too little. You might need to consider dropping all those supplements and going back to basics by focusing on getting thyroid levels sorted out. Get a thyroid test done that includes FT4 and FT3, not just TSH, then come back here with the results so that members can offer suggestions. If your GP won't help with the full testing, consider doing private testing like many here have to. (Useful info on the TUK website thyroiduk.org/tuk/testing/p... )

it may not be that the GP is being unhelpful. I have heard of the labs not goign on to test *t3/4 unless TSH over certain marker. You might need to convince your GP to be very explicit. if s/he is Hasi it shoudl be possible.

I find GP visits in London akin to speed dating (not that I have tried ). I get a different locum every time and have a few mins to get my message across. I find it pays to be full briefed to tell them exactly what to do with confidence but enough deference so they think they are in control. A jedi mind trick so to speak. good luck. yoda.
