Hypo, hashi and needing exercise advise please.

So I’m hypo and have Hashimoto. Antibodies are 280 ( I only found out I was hashi recently, from this forum) I’ve been hypo for many years.

I had a blood test last week having NOT taken my thyroid drugs, and it’s massively different!

Free T3 was 9.5 in Jan

TSH was 1.08

Free T4 < 3.2

( because I didn’t know not to take meds that morning, as with every other test I’ve done)

yet last week free T3 was 4.8

TSH 2.04

Free T4 < 3.2 ( same)

But I also asked her to do

Ferritin 57 ( range 12-250)

B12 4.39 (range 130-800)

I’m off gluten caffeine and dairy ( I have the odd bit of dairy but very little) I’ve been off it all for about 4 /5 weeks, following Isabella Wentz advice. I am eating grain and eggs as think I’d struggle if I cut those too.

I’ve now swapped over to Thybon Henning, I take 20mcg twice a day. I’m hoping this brand will stop my daily debilitating headaches... as well as make me feel better..

Im taking supplements

Liver support

Magnesium

Selenium

B12

Iron ( with vit c)

DHEA

Probiotics

My questions.

Should I feel good on this lot?! I wake up exhausted and have very little energy all day. My brain fog devastates me.

What exercise should I do and not do? I need to increase my fitness/stamina but I also need to tone up, I’m not grossly overweight, but I’m not happy with how I look and feel.

I’m eating healthily, and the scales stay roughly the same so I’m only burning the calories I consume, nothing more, but I’m currently only doing one class a week that’s a hiit class with strength training ( it’s called strong by Zumba)

But what actually is the best exercise to do? Can I run/jog? Or even power walk? Or do I just stick to weights but then how does that improve fitness??

Sorry if I seem thick, but I just need to know what will make a difference!

I'm sorry, but we need the ranges for those results. Results without ranges are meaningless.

Your level of exercise should depend on your level of T3. If your T3 is low, then it won't be able to sustain heavy exercise. Just walking and swimming. But, a good guide is how you recover from exercise. If it takes you two or three days to recover, then it's too much.

And, don't forget, exercise uses up a lot of calories, and you need calories to convert. I'm not too sure from your post, exactly what and how much you're taking, but it is something to bear in mind. :)

greygoose i knew there was something I forgot, sorry!!

So these are my results in January having taking my meds that morning ( I didn't know you weren't meant to)

29/01/2018

Serum TSH 1.08. Range 0.35-5.00

Serum Free T4 < 3.2 Range 7.00-20.00

Serum Free T3 9.5. Range 3.80-6.70

So, this is without taking my meds first thing..

15/03/2018

Serum TSH 2.04. Range 0.35-5.00

Serum Free T4 < 3.2. Range 7.00-20.00

Serum Free T3 4.8. Range 3.80-6.70

Serum B12 439 range 130-800

Serum ferritin. 57. Range 12.00-250.

( I asked to get b12 and ferritin checked, I've since started taking iron!)

So I'm currently fairly inactive other than being a mum of 2 young children, I was trying to learn to run, getting out a couple of times a week, but I e not been for a couple of months. I do a hiit class once a week, yes I ache the next day but I don't mind that. When I was running, yes I ached the next day, but again, nothing major.

I want to do exercise that works and doesn't wipe me out, I get breathless, but is could be due to lack of fitness. I'm happy to try anything to tone up my nearly 40 year old body and feel good...

It could be I don't eat enough, but I do t want to over eat and get fat!

I'm 5 ft 6 and 10 st 5, I'm a good size 10, so not huge, but I'd like to be toned and like my body....

Well, your FT3 is under mid-range, so looks like you need an increase in dose. What are you taking, by the way to have an FT4 under-range? Looks like T3 only.

I'm afraid I can't advise you on what exercises to do. It's something I absolutely hate, myself! I can only advise you to be careful until your FT3 is optimal, and I doubt it's optimal at the moment. So, you must not over-do it, or you will set your recovery back. There are more important things than being toned.

For the breathlessness, that could be the low iron. And your B12 could be higher - should be at least over 500. Have you had your folate and vit d tested?

I hate it too, but can’t not do anything!!!!

I’m on Sinofi Henning Thybon 20 mcg twice a day. It’s T3 only, I’ve only just swapped to this brand as every other band gives me severe daily headaches. I’m T3 only as thyroxine does not work for me, I’ve been T3 only for years.

My GP wants to see how I get on with this brand before increasing my dose, but I’m hoping she will increase it as I agree, I don’t think it’s right yet.

I’ll keep taking the B12 and iron - I’ve found a B12 spray I want to try as meant to be better.

I’ll ask for folate and D on next tests!!

Thank you for being so helpful 😊
