Hi everyone..
My wife is 19 weeks pregnant and her TSH is 9.68 UIU/ML.. Can anyone help me how to control it and is there any problem in pregnancy?
Is she on Thyroid medication?
During pregnancy TSH should be below 2. 5 I believe. Clutter has lots of information about this.
Your wife should see her doctor urgently.
Yes.. She is taking Thyronorm 100mg
Make an urgent appointment to see the GP, if he doesn't know about hypothyroidism in pregnancy then insist he contacts an endocrinologist who does urgently. She needs to get that TSH right down. Google about hypothyroidism and TSH in pregnancy so you have some information to take with you.
I am sure a Clutter will be along to advise when she is around.
Naushmoid,
Your wife needs to increase Thyronorm dose to 150mcg and retest thyroid level in 4-6 weeks. The foetus has developed it's own thyroid gland at 12-14 weeks so will have been independent of maternal thyroid hormone since then.
During the first trimester TSH should be 0.4 - 2.5 and during the second and third trimesters 0.4 - 3.0.
Management of primary hypothyroidism: statement by the British Thyroid Association Executive Committee
13. The serum TSH reference range in pregnancy is 0·4–2·5 mU/l in the first trimester and 0·4–3·0 mU/l in the second and third trimesters or should be based on the trimester-specific reference range for the population if available. These reference ranges should be achieved where possible with appropriate doses of L-T4 preconception and most importantly in the first trimester (1/++0). L-T4/L-T3 combination therapy is not recommended in pregnancy (1/+00).

According to the ATA First Trimester TSH levels between 2.5 and 5.0 are associated with in-creased pregnancy loss

Essential to test her folate and B12
Both are essential nutrients for baby's early development
Also request vitamin D and ferritin too
