A certain Scottish doctor had some figures to support this,& wrote a book -- takes awhile to get out there.

If only to support those under pressure to lose weight, we know we're trying_

Could it be that the "gotta diet" mentality contributed to all this malarky in the first place?

I almost fully agree. Except there is certain level of obesity that burdens your joints that can lead to issues.

But its not about being skinny, just losing enough to support overall wellness.

I am thin, but I have also been advised to monitor my weight in case it starts to increase as my other knee has been operated when I was 19. It was soft because of multiple cortisone injections at age of 13. Very good surgeon got it fixed and no pain since , but the surgeon said that gaining a lot of weight causes pain and if I ever get pregnant I should prepare for it , that I might need to rest more and avoid stressing the knee.

Yeah I've been interested in the Obesity Paradox for some time. I put on over 5st in the last 4 months of pregnancy! That was 21 years ago up until then I was naturally slim. I began research and it seems a lot of so called science on 'obesity' is basically bent! It's stats are skewed and the ethics are sub par, sometimes researchers find out the funding has been coming from big food or pharmaceuticals companies! Why? Because it's a multi billion pound industry! 😯 I stopped dieting after reading many well written, expose books. I also think like me a lot of women have problems after having children due to low thyroid that isn't detected yet, and may not be discovered till many years later. Drs gave me many drugs and I went to the gym religiously to no avail. All my tests were fine. Eventually after pushing myself very hard both physically and mentally I crashed and stopped exercises due to severe weakness and chronic fatigue. Eventually I went to see Dr P and was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism and we started treatment immediately. Whereas my gp is saying I have chronic fatigue and there's nothing they can do!

I see some very unfit slim people and when I thought about it one day, everyone I know of that had died early/young had been slim! My two Grans were quite overweight in later life but they died in their mid-late eighties! There is a lot more to being overweight than most people know and I'd agree that eating fresh, organic, whole foods, doing exercise of some sort i.e. dancing, walking in nature, yoga, qui gong, swimming in the sea or lakes is going to lead to a quality of life that is separate from the size of the number on your clothes label. The stigma to be slim is huge though and until the truth is revealed people will give up their health and strength to drop a dress size. I had to learn the hard way! ☺
