I bought some iron, magnesium, calcium, zinc, primrose oil, b12 and this thyroid vitamin which contains bladder wrack, l tyrosine, kelp and they all have directions on how much to take but not sure if it's the correct amount. Also I looked for ferritin and could not find any. Is there a link with recommended dosage. And yes, I'm hypo and I am off Armour. I was taking 60 mg 2 grains for last two years. I have been off Armour for about eight weeks now. And yes the shedding had eased up and not like it was.

Hi

Are you taking anything at all in the way of thyroid hormones? How do you feel having been off the Armour for 8 weeks?

I would follow the directions for most of these supplements. With magnesium it is best to start slowly and build up. Magnesium can affect your digestion so it is best to build up slowly. If it doesn't agree with you, a magnesium spray may be better. With zinc and calcium I tend to follow the instructions. Same for iron unless I know I am anaemic or my ferritin is low. I take 1000iu B12 as a maintenance dose but 5000iu if I am low on B12. I always take it with a B complex.

Ferritin is basically stored iron. It will depend on your iron levels among other things. Taking iron with vitamin C can help with absorption and taking vitamin B2 (in marmite and other things) can help with storing that iron, thus helping to raise your ferritin.

I don't know enough about evening primrose oil or the thyroid supplement so it is best to follow the instructions.

It is best not to take calcium and magnesium at the same time of day as your iron or thyroid medication (if you are taking any) because it can reduce absorption. It is also best not to take iron at the same time as thyroid medication.

If your iron and ferritin are low, that could explain the shedding. Your body wouldn't be able to cope well with the Armour.

I hope that has helped at least a little.

Debber, I wouldn't take iron or calcium unless I'd had blood tests which showed levels were low or deficient. Too much iron and calcium are as bad as too little and will cause problems. Ferritin is stored iron.

Kelp can contain a lot of iodine and may be contraindicated with thyroid issues. Check the iodine content of bladder wrack before taking it.

Yes I think you are doubling up there so be careful

Hi Multi vit and minerals do not contain much. If taking individual tablets B12 not absorbed in tablet form, needs injections, calcium dangerous and magnesium without blood tests. Make sure your vit D is ok as hormonal and strong relationship with thyroid.Yoju also need b12, ferritin and iron tests.

Personnally, I wouldn't take anything containing iodine (bladder wrack, kelp) without getting iodine and selenium checked. Could very well make things worse rather than better. What's more, I wouldn't supplement calcium, but rather vit D3, magnesium and vit K2. Calcium from suppléments can end up in the wrong place!

You guys are right and I wil get blood work first and find out where I'm at. With coming off Armour my eighth week I feel great other than I went thru some hair loss but it has eased up. My doc gave me some nature throid after not getting my shipments but I'm afraid to take as my body went thru s jolt coming off Armour and I don't think I'm ready for another jolt getting on nature throid and go thru more shedding. The shedding had slowed down. I will get appointment and get checked. What's crazybis since I've been off Armour my nails have grown better. Weird! Thank you all my family from the bottom of my heart. This is so comfortable complexing and frustrating
