I have ibs-d and am currently under a bad flare. I think it was because of stress. I can’t hardly eat anything and I ended up in the ER. It’s been a week already. I havent eaten anything bad and I still can’t get it under control. I’m not currently on meds for it. I’ve been careful what I eat. Any ideas how to get it under control? Are steroids good for it?

severe flare
My Doctor prescribes me 15mg Codeine Phosphate I usually take one everyday in the morning after I have been to bathroom , but when I have a really bad flare up I have been told I can take up 30mg every 4 hours , it makes you feel a bit woozy at first but keeps Diarrhea at bay so you can go about and carry on with normal life or at least leave the house to get some things done , hope this helps
Hi Toophat. When I had a bad flare of diarrhea for over 2 weeks my gp put me on famotidine 20mg x 1 at night time. This stopped my diarrhea and pains. Was on it for 8 weeks and been fine now for 4 weeks. I had all bloods and poo tests, everything was normal. Hope you get sorted soon. Let usknow how it does. In in UK
I take it you have had all bloods and poo samples taken. Do you have any pain if yes where? Regards Suzanne
Then you need too say you want bloods and poo samples and a scan to rule out gallbladder problems. I'm surprised when you were in ER they never took any samples. What did ER say?
I still think you should have blood and poo tests. It could be a virus or a bacterial infection. It could also be parasites and ova. What about E. coli. All of these need to be checked. If you are not eating for this length of time it may well be something other than IBS.
