I have suffered with ibs for many years. I was diagnosed over 20 years ago. Recently things have been getting worse, especially since having my appendix removed in 2018. I have recently had more explorations done, to rule out anything more serious. I've realised that my diet needs looking at regularly and altered if necessary. I suffer from constipation and diarrhoea alternatively, the latter being the worst, as it makes me feel so very ill! Since Jan I have been on a pretty strict gluten free diet and was feeling OK, however, I indulged this weekend, eating snacking foods, like pork pies and mini sausage etc, I thought a couple won't hurt! Last night was the worst episode ever, sat on the loo with a bowl in my lap, feeling like I was actually going to die! So, I think it's clear, I need to be strict with myself, I hate feeling like this, I can't even get out of bed as I have no energy. I saw someone mentioned menopause could be a contributory factor, I'm peri menopausal 😔

Getting worse
Hi So sorry to hear about your symptoms. I also have IBS with symptoms for a long time. It can be depressing sometimes. I can have 10 days of good days when I can eat anything healthy. Last night I had a takeaway which was greasy and very salty. 2 hours after eating my stomach felt hard and bloated with crampy pain on and off, this left me veryu fatigued and no energy. Pain was uncomfortable and lasted for 2 hours. Felt bit better when I went to the toilet and had loose stools. Eating anys foods greasy or eating too much food with gluten can cause symptoms. If I eat too much can cause symptoms so I try to eat smaller portions. It can be annoying and affects daily life
☺️
So true, sorry to hear that you and so many others suffer so much. I haven't been able to have takeaways for a while, the pain and symptoms come on with an hour or so! I guess it's a good job I like healthy foods 😊 I've printed out the Fodmap list and am going to follow that for a while, gradually try introducing different things xxx
I feel you mate.
I’ve had IBS/Gut Issues for over 20 years and those moments of weakness will really come back to bite you.
It’s hard to be strict as sometimes the urge to eat certain things is too great and you’ll know you’ll pay for it later.
Even things like beef hamburger patties which are fine for me, I had some last week and it killed me for a couple of days.
These were patties that my dad bought from some meat factory and I don’t know what was in it but something in it didn’t agree with me.
I’m still waiting to find out the full ingredients list for my peace of mind but I suspect they maybe put Inulin Fibre in it, which destroys me
I’m sorry to hear that. I did Fodmap about 8 yrs ago but with a referral through a hospital group. It was very helpful as it identified my food triggers (Fructose). I still have IBSM but not the terrible pain, just inconvenience of needing the loo a lot. I think Fodmap is a tough exclusion diet to figure out food triggers, not a so much a diet to relieve symptoms- the hospital saw it that way anyway. I got my referral through a GP. I hope that helps 😉.
So sorry to hear your not well. I have been gluten and dairy free since September last year had some chips once from a pub and was really bad so now I make all my own or go to gf places I just feel it’s not worth the risk. Hope your better soon xx
