I have UC for last 3years and at first 6 800mg octasa tablets kept it under control but since Christmas I’ve been struggling lhave constant so called flares. My consultant has tried me on salafalk 2mg enamas and budalfalk foam enamas.at the moment I’m on prednisone 5mg suppository which to some degree seem to work, although recently I’ve had on and off diarraha sometimes with blood showing and also 2 unopened octasa tablets.
At night I seem to get a lot of wind and was wondering if this is caused through the prednisone this in turn makes loose stools, mucus and blood although not horrendous but still worrying
Anyone on this site with UC with these sort of problems.......thankyou

I am trying out 6 x 800mg Octasa, I’ve been on them for about x Three weeks. I’m sure they give me excess gas in the evening, so it could be that. Although, I suspect we all experience different side effects from various drug therapy. I’m experiencing lots of side effects from the Octasa.
I’ve been on the same dosage octasa as you split 3 morning and 3 evening. For nearly 3 years they have been brilliant and kept me in remission but recently I’ve had a flare which as lasted a few months.
Just about now it’s starting to subside with the help of budenafalk 2meg foam enema, although now I’m starting to see unopened octasa tabs.
My ibd consultant is going to reasses my meds next month , just wondering what was you taking pre octasa .
I did get uncomfortable wind and gas but didn’t particularly put it down to octasa, a lot of it was eating the wrong foods although any over the counter medication carry the active ingredient simetone cured my excess wind and gas
Hi Lynda, I was originally taking Salofalk granules and getting on fine, that was over a year ago, then I started on Salofalk enema as well, but after a few days, my pancreas was hurting so much, I stopped all the meds, I had pancreatitis or something was elevated in numbers. I managed with no meds until recently at the end of feb had a bad flare up and my GP gave me x5 days of Prednisone, I ended up taking 10 days Prednisone and that stopped the flare. Then I contacted the IBD nurse, who wanted me to take an 8 week Prednisone course, which I refused. I asked her to send Octasa for me to try. I have a phone appointment in a week with the Consultant. Just a question as anyone been prescribed any antispasmodics to help with gut spasms which helpfully will stop the urgency. My doctor told me about antimuscarinics such as dicycloverine or smooth muscle relaxants such as alverine.
But first I’ve got to run it through with my IBD consultant
