IBS?

Hi all

I'm new to thos forum. I'm 22 years old and I've been having issues with loose stools for a year now. I'm losing my mind as I have no official diagnosis. I had an endoscopy in October which showed everything was fine. I'm super nervous for my colonoscopy. My stomach hurts only when I push on it on the right side. I'm so so scared. Loose stools are really worrying me too.

Have you tried anything to help with this?

Not really..my GP is absolutely useless. Prescribed omeprazole. I have probably rang them 10 times and I get the same useless response. I really struggle to swallow capsules so everything I've ordered on my own accord is also a waste of money. I'm just hoping it's nothing serious

You really need to know what it is first, then take action. Your gp might be waiting to see the final results before helping you more.

You can change your gp if you aren't happy with your current one, you only need to get a form from a new gp/practice, fill it in and give it back to them. I did it without any hassle at all.

I was going to change it but with my GP referring me to a gastroenterologist I thought it would interfere with the referral what with so many delays already. Thanks for responding anyway.

Keep us posted on how things go, someone on here might be able to help you somehow.

I know it's hard but try not to worry to much or it might make you feel worse.

Take care..

Yes. Just wait a bit longer and if still not satisfied then change. The trouble is IBS has so many causes that there is not just one solution. The incidence in the population is so high that I’m sure half our doctors have it. My friend couldn’t go to mass any more because she was scared of voiding in church and when she told the priest in confession he said that he had it too. Focus on looking after yourself. Whatever it takes. Bx

Thank you..its draining but I just want to know it's not anything else serious..I mean imagine if it is and it's been going on a year. Terrified is an understatement.

Hi, have you tried loperamide? You can take upto 8 a day, they slow the bowel movements & prevent the loose stool issue. They are prescription only, but they have helped me massively. I've never had a proper diagnosis or tests like most comments I read on here, just that its ibs! I am not sure why your doctor prescribed omeprazole as that is more for acid & reflux? I believe they can cause diarrhoea, so this may only be adding to your problems. Hope you manage to get this resolved quickly as I can really empathise with you, its so draining. Best of luck

Thank you so much for your response. I have an appointment with the consultant on Monday. He is most probably going to refer me for a colonoscopy. Not looking forward to it..already having nightmares. But I appreciate your response it's so horrible 💔
