Little IBS Update - Help with Excess Gas?

Hey guys!

Many thanks if you replied to my long post regarding my symptoms the other day. Since then I've confronted my anxiety side of things, trying not to think about things too much and to just be as active as possible and there's definitely a link. When I'm on the go and thinking about other things and focusing my mind on something else, I'm basically symptom free. I've looked at coping mechanisms as well as talking to my girlfriend about it a bit more, reading other people's experiences on here helped a lot as well as I know I'm not alone in this situation

I've booked in with a dietician who specialises in gastro symptoms and has IBS and coeliac herself so that should help me understand FODMAP more and put me on the right path with some support. Food diary is going to be a daily thing going forward throughout it to see what happens there.

One thing I am still struggling with, particularly in evenings, is excess gas. As mentioned before I'm having between 2 and 3 normal bowel movements a day but I'm struggling with gas. There's lots of it especially after my evening meal and sitting on the sofa, trying to relax is hard to do as I keep getting the urge to pass gas, sometimes it feels like more than gas so I will try and hold it in or rush to the toilet, only to find out that it's just gas and nothing else.

Googling common foods that cause it don't raise any red flags and Rennies/Bisodol don't touch it. I've also tried Activated Charcoal tablets that have had little to no affect. Is there anything anyone can suggest that would ease these feelings and the excess gas? I think if I can get a hold on this, together with the FODMAP trial, I can really get a hold of my symptoms.

Thanks :)

The best way to stop gas coming out is to stop it going in. So, no fizzy drinks, no alcohol, also make sure you chew SMALL mouthful of food really, really well before swallowing. Good luck and stay safe.

Hey there, thanks for the reply, I don't go anywhere near fizzy drinks or alcohol, I do have a tendency to eat big mouthfuls but I think it's something food related, can't get my head around it really. Thanks

Good to see that you are already taking control and have put things in place to help you, so well done for that.

Rennie Deflatine (specifically) rather than Rennie on its own helps me with gas. You could also try enteric coated peppermint.

I feel that you are fortunate enough to be able to release it. Personally mine is trapped in small intestine and causes agonising pain. If only there was something better drug than Simethicone.
