Just started FODMAP diet - not easy - new to forum

I would like some advice. My husband can eat normally but I am a week into Fodmapping, somewhat handicapped by other health issues, and as some older posts have said, I am finding it hard and - of course - restrictive.

Although I love to cook, I am (literally) handicapped by arthritis. Nevertheless I have experimented with variations on casserole meals by using a lot of herbs, tomato puree and permitted flavourings instead of onion, garlic and stock cubes.

Other than that I am finding my imagination failing me. However although I cannot easily access some ingredients locally and am awaiting delivery of some that will allow me to bake cakes and biscuits (cookies).

How can I make more nutritious and tasty meals on a budget? All the books I have seen include more pages about the diet than actual recipes!

Hi Jenles

I have been doing fodmap for a while, which amazing results. It's really very hard, a couple of months in it gets easier as you have had time to acquire all the knowledge you need.

So to answer your question, top tips on recipe inspiration:

1. Get online - there are loads of inspiring people online. This is one example on twitter twitter.com/lowfodmapinsp she does lovely recipes and lots of practical input on her journey;

2. Look at the recipe's you love and start adapting them. I have adapted over half my old favourites and really enjoyed the challenge. Quite a few seem to test better with the onion, garlic, wheat elements replaced by the low fodmap substitutes ...

Hope it all goes well for you ... and don't forget to reintroduce later in the process

I'm in my 3rd week. I'm finding it easier as I have found some ready made local low FODMAP products. But I have given up a lot of my favourites too. I seem to be stuck with bananas in the fruit dept as they are not messy and travel well. And finding roasted nuts that aren't part of "healthy" mixtures full of cashews and/or pistachios is annoyingly difficult. But if it works I will be very happy.
