Hi balshealth,

It sounds like your poor Mum is having a dreadful time, so I am glad that she is getting good support from you.

I'm afraid that I am unable to answer all of the questions you have, though I will try my best to answer some. This site is not staffed by doctors so we cannot answer specific medical questions.

TB anywhere in the body is curable with antibiotics in the majority of cases - even spinal TB. The best chance of a complete cure, with no lasting health problems, is for TB to be caught early. When TB is diagnosed and treated late it has longer to cause long-lasting or permanent damage to the body. This can be particularly severe with spinal TB.

It is good news that she is able to walk, albeit with support. This suggests any damage to her spine is limited and will heal in time. It will be important for your Mum to engage fully with any recommended course of exercise, but to also get adequate rest in between. She will also benefit from eating a broad range or fruit, vegetables, grains and foods rich with protein, omega 3 and calcium (which are most often found in meat, fish and dairy but can be found in plant based foods). These foods give the body the nutrients it needs to grow and heal.

I hope that with these suggestions, the medical care she is receiving, and your support, your mother will recover in time.

Best wishes,

Helen
